John Hughes, prolific director of such culturally significant films such as The Breakfast Club, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Planes, Trains and Automobiles and Home Alone has died suddenly of a heart attack while taking a morning walk during a trip to Manhattan to visit family.

John Wilden Hughes, Jr., born on February 18th, 1950 in Michigan, was a self-made man whose career began as an advertising copywriter in Chicago. His films helped launch countless careers and revealed to a global audience the humor, sensitivity and nuances of everyday people in the suburbs of Chicago. In the last decade, he stepped back from the legacy he created to enjoy time with his family, maintain a functioning farm in northern Illinois and support independent arts. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Nancy, two sons, John and James, and four grandchildren.

Well damn.🙁 He directed some great movies.RIP Mr. Hughes.

A real shame he died so young. He directed some fine movies. Rest In Peace, John.

I looked him up on Wikipedia yesterday, because I was watching "The Great Outdoors" which he produced. Random. Such a shame that he died so young.

This is shocking. I loved the movies he made. ( either as director or producer... Home Alone being at the top of the list )

R.I.P. 🙁

The Breakfast Club and Home Alone are 2 of my favorite movies ever.

RIP Mr. Landis. Your movies will live on, thus so will your memory and vision.

Rob

yeah, Home Alone is at the top of my list of his movies.. but he did some other really good ones too.. Ferris Bueler's Day Off was pretty good..

I just got home and read this. I'm in shock. He was a cinematic genius, and made so many wonderful movies.

R. I.P. Mr Hughes.

Mitch

He also did 16 Candles and most of the Chevy Chase "Vacation" movies I beleive. Such a shame, I can't recall any bad press about him EVER and I was a teen in the 80s when he was a legend. Words fail me.
XOXO
