Rain, Rain, Please Go Away Already!-Rain Rant

Ann

Thanks for the link Got a load going south now Gotta travel back down I81 in PA Just wish I could get some good info on PA conditions for I81

looks like my area may be getting rain soon. but i highly doubt it'll be enough to help take the edge off of they dryness that prevails. the humidity is so high there is rarely ever any morning dew on the grass...hopefully, all those that have been getting the excessive rains will find safety.

I tried finding something decent for PA, NJ & MA. But, I have yet to find anything other than local area sites that are not real time. If I come up with something, I'll pass it along....though it will be too late for this trip. I do know that Great Bend is largely evacuated because of flooding. But, I'm not sure if 81 is closed through the area or just the ramps.

Made it through ok Ann It looks like a lot of water has recceded over the past couple days I drove over the Susquehana river in Harrisburg earlier It was a close thing there Looks like it didn't flood in that area

Glad you were able to get through safely! Binghamton is reopened for driving. But, they'll be boiling water for weeks. The treatment plant is largely under water still and using backup systems just to keep sewage from backing up into homes.

Hi Ann,

My thoughts are with your parents, your grandfather and your old neighborhood. Up here, north of Bingo, we were fortunately spared the worst of it even though the weather forecasters had said we were facing the prospect of epic flooding, the local river expected to be 12 feet above flood stage (it flooded, but nowhere close to that).

Do you know anbody in Conklin? I watched a local TV news report and they said it was actually one of the hardest-hit areas. In fact, the segment showed how the residents are getting pretty hot about the lack of help and coordination in the cleanup efforts. It's almost a mini-New Orleans.

That washaway of I-88 near Sidney was horrific, and a tragedy for those two truckers. It immediately brought to mind that horrendous rain-induced bridge collapse on the Thruway west of Amsterdam in, I think, 1987. Now I'm really concerned about the state of our highways and bridges here in the Empire State. As you know, they were hardly in great shape to begin with, and who knows how much this flooding, in your native area and also in the Mohawk Valley, has weakened them even further.

Thanks, Ed. They're all doing fine. And my folks were finally able to get to Corning yesterday. (Gotta give them a buzz at some point today to see how that went.) It's a mess throughout the area. I do know a few folks in Conklin...all but one right on the river and evacuated. This is the worst since Agnes hit us back in 72. It's going to take a while to get things cleaned up and back online.

I'm glad your area was spared the worst of it. I think you're right about the bridges. Did you hear the 2-year-old reports of the inspection of the section that collapsed? There were serious issues then and nothing was done. With all the taxes we pay, you'd think things like this would be tended to. :Grrr:

Oh well, before I get on my soapbox about that one, I'll shut up. lol I'll be in touch.
