Rap Music

-Kunoke- said:
Agreed. Couldn't have said it better.

Thank you.

And then of course theres the mixed messeges rap music can send an impressionable minority child. Its bad enough that all some of these minority children have are hoop dreams and they aren't encouraged or told they can be anything more, let alone them hearing how street life is glamourized, and that dropping out won't matter if you're man enough to shoot up some people and steal their money and disrespect and dehumanize women.

Now don't get me wrong, ALL music can have these types of negative messeges or idealizations and delusions of grandeur. But never before have I seen (in music videos, video games and now even commercials selling a product) or heard (in the actual music) these types of messeges to be so prevelent, motivated and clear as it is in rap music.

There is absolutely no remorse when they make these songs. It is deliberate, and the messege is clear. They wish to influence. If they didn't, they wouldn't handle it this way.

Many of these rappers have no shame or moral fiber. They've turned on their people and have sold them out.

I fear for our impoverished youth. They can and easily do become the criminals of tomorrow. Rap music, in my opinion, doesn't do them any favors in getting away from that.

Well I think part of it is the influence, because having kids look up to them as idols might be something they like. Whether or not they like it, it happens, and it happens a lot. You see kids dressing like them, talking like them, and doing the things their music talks about. In my opinion, without rap around, a lot of these youth issues would not exist at all.

I've heard of 10 year olds having kids, doing drugs, and all that. Not too long ago I even heard my second grade nephew talking about how his friend was going to leave and go have sex with his girlfriend. I mean, I didn't even think second graders were hooking up like that. These things are happening, and I think it's part of the reason that I dislike the idea of rap so much. I still stand by the fact that there is some rap that isn't like that, and there is some rap that doesnt bother me. But the majority of it is just something I dislike. Pure and simple. It's hateful, it's disgusting, and it's just not any fun for me to listen to.

No offense to anyone who likes rap, but anyone can rhyme, curse, and talk about how they banged their girlfriend in the back of their fancy car. Even you. It's fine that some people like it and all, but it just doesn't take as much talent as playing a difficult instrument, or composing a masterpiece.

I've been writig and performing hip-hop for almost 9 years now and I think it's completely rediculouse that his movie or him as a person is banned from any city state or even a single location! I mean first of all yeah he might not be amongst the greatest rappers (or even the good ones) but he hasnt done anything that hundreds of other performers (not even just rappers) havnt done b4 and as far as the movie being banned that is despicable!! I mean it wasnt even all that violent, I've seen at least 100 other movies that made this one looks like the care bears (half of which have won awards) further more as a movie I found it more intertaining than 8mile. I mean white rapper makes boring movie.. it wins an oscar back rapper makes ok movie... it's banned. white person invents gun... he wins a nobel prize... black rapper says gun... congressional hearing need I say more

You're not trying to rationalize the general "rapper revolt" against "the man", are you? I'm just checking. Because based on what you said, it could be taken for that.

LOL. 😛 Then I suppose I'm going to have to say thanks. Rap is just one of those things for me. It ticks me off.

White rapper didnt put out a video game in relation to the release of the movie which is nearly more violent than GTA that glorifies killing.

Also, 8 mile is not about a former drug dealer making it big, its about a poor white trash guy in detroit tryin to survive. For once they show a white person as the minority

Thank you. I knew somebody was going to play the race card, but I wanted to leave it up to someone else (you in this case) to say something about it.

That and the fact that 8 mile just seems to have so much more substance because of that. It's a good story about how even the people we look down upon, the people who are barely able to live somewhere besides the streets, can be sucessful, and in some cases, more successful than us.

Rap music keeps people down and supressed, oddly enough. As much as it often talks about rebellion, it actually has the opposite effect and people that fall into these lifestyles are essentially shackling themselves and throwing away the key.

I see a lot of that too. But it happens with all kinds of music. Some people were in that situation already, and listen to music that relates to it. I admit to doing the same thing. It kind of makes you feel like someone understands you. Music is a great thing, but certain music results in almost certain effects, unfortuneately. All types of music are known for changing the way people talk and dress, changing the way they treat others, and changing the way they treat themselves. It's not true for everyone, but music is quite influential, no matter whether people choose to admit it or not.

I've seen for myself that people who listen to Rap tend to be more aggressive, in your face, sexual, curse frequently, and a vast majority do some sort of drug, or drink. It's not a lifestyle I'm into, and that's why I don't listen to rap.

The music I like to listen to is just something I can rock out to. And I think that explains for itself what kind of music it is.

8 mile is about race as well. How can it not be commented on? Its about a white guy in a poor region of detroit who decides to become a rapper and is mocked by many for being a white kid tryin to do a black thing. Its what the movie is about.

Also, it was my predecessors post that i commented from which started the race thing, about how eminem got awards and .50 got bannings

Just for the record, I think I would rather listen to any current rap/hip-hop song than Dimmu Borgior...or however it's spelled. Iced Earth, In Flames, any of those bands...urrrgggg

Sorry, anyways, I am not sure how much this is going to contribute to the dicussion this has turned into, but rather than join the rap bashing, I'll just say I consider it to be pretty much novelty music. I used to hate rap too, and I still do hate some of it...but then I got introduced to partying in the city (Atlanta, actually) and its a whole nother thing when a rap song with a good beat is playing overhead and you have some girl grinding on you (ladies, this situation could be flipped).

Haha, I know this is horrible reason to like rap music and I have no grounds at all to defend it, because everything you guys have said is perfectly correct. I have even asked female friends of mine if they get offended at music that is so derogatory towards them, and for the most part, they see rap music as harmless entertainment and dance music. But then, these are the same girls that go out and party at places that play this music.

And I also happen to know alot of girls that HATE rap and love metal bands like
Dimmu Borgir, In Flames, Norther, Wintersun, Norther, Sonata Arctica, Nightwish, Sentenced, Insomnium, Equilibrium, Children of Bodom, Charon, Poisonblack ... *list goes on* 🙂

About all of my ... yea, over 90% of the people I'm friends with totally hate rap or despise it. Damn I love growling... hated it at first but now I kinda like it!
Damn... I love it! 😀 😛

\m/ >_< \m/ OROROROROR!!! MRRR!! 😛

PS. Dimmu Borgir rocks! One of the best bands I've ever known of 😛

Yeah, thats cool. I wasn't remarking about girl's taste in music. Everyone has different tastes. The world would suck if everyone liked the same stuff. Black Metal just isn't my thing. I was actually moreso remarking on how crazy it is that girls can like music that dehumanizes them as much as some rap music does.

I can, however, dig some stuff like Poison the Well and From Autumn to Ashes...though thats about as heavy as my tastes get...but theres no way I could listen to that stuff all the time, either. Its more for my pissed off moods.

Comparing dimmu to inflames is like comparing dre to r kelly, yes they are both metal bands but entirely different sounding

Also, lotta girls can dance to metal. Check out ozzfest sometime

Hmmmm...my bad for not being entirely educated on European metal bands.

Dance or mosh?

R.Kelly is one of my most disliked individuals on the Planet Earth (he should be sharing a cell with Micheal Jackson as we speak)...and Ozzfest does not usually peak my interest anymore. I don't listen to metal very much anymore. Besides, the festival has been skipping ATL lately anyway.

Who played Ozzfest this year?

Ozzy and Black Sabbath - Gods of metal they may be...but they should have stuck to thier word and retired.

Velvet Revolver - Scott Weiland's and Guns and Roses' poor attempt at making a band -- bad, bland music (STP still rules, though)

Black Label Society - Zack Wylde and company are not my cup of tea (and everytime I see that guy on TV, he seems like a pretentious ass)

Shadow's Fall - Ehhh...some of their songs seem OK.

Mudvayne - I do not dislike these guys, but they're "nu" metal and not "true" metal, right?

Rob Zombie - Haven't liked'em ever since White Zombie broke up...

Kill Switch Engage - Not a fan - I do like a few other RoadRunner bands though...

Other second stage bands I know little to nothing about...maybe that just shows my ignorance about the metal scene.

Just remember, everyone has different taste. I am not insulting anyone else's taste in anyway, I am just stating my own.

Come to my town and I'll be happy to take you to a Weezer concert :nerd:

you named alot of the mainstage bands but zombie and switch were second stage, other main bands were in flames and iron maiden(for the first half of the tour)

Other second stage bands were trivium, mastodon, arch enemy, soilwork and the haunted plus more, i just named the good ones

How was the band that won that corney MTV show?

A thousand furies...or something like that.

they sucked donkey cock

them and wicked wisdom, which is jada pinkett smith's band, all they were, was annoying feedback and inaudible lyrics, waste of my listening time
