I think that's the type of files they are. I tried to open a file from anime tickle thread in the non-tickling art section and when it opened in word all it showed was odd text that I couldn't read. It was supposed to be an array of images.

RAR files should be opened with an unzip utility, such as the free 7-Zip or Tugzip, or the shareware WinRAR.

Note that only WinRAR (to my knowledge) can make .RAR files, although all Missy Val mentioned can unpack them.

Okay I downloaded one of the free ones that you mentioned but how do I make sure to open the file with that program instead of straight into Word?

Once you install the program it should associate files of type .rar with itself. If it does not you can usually right-click on the file and look for an option to unzip/unpack the rar using that program. WinRAR adds options like "Extract Files" and "Extract Here" while 7zip has a submenu that is labeled "7-zip". In it are options to extract.
