We have discuss the subject of racism & bigotry on many levels, we all have different views and opinions about the subject but on this day, I would like to wish all a joyous MLK day.

I remember hearing that powerful and inspiring speech live in the summer of 1963. Thanks for the link.

King is a hero not just to African Americans but to all Americans a pivotal towering figure of the 20th century for sure!

^ What he said.

Dr. King was not just a great leader. He was a man of great depth of intelligence and a true visionary in every sense of the word. Every word he uttered, he meant. And it is worth reading his speeches word for word to understand that he did not gloss over issues or speak in metaphor. I believe with my heart and soul that "not by the color of their skin, but the content of their character" is THE goal, because it takes relations between the races to relations among people. If everyone really understood the depth of that philosphy and wished it true, things would be a LOT better today. In my estimation, Dr. King's word was the last word on the subject that had both clarity of meaning and purity of motive.

Although many will be off work today in observance of Dr King Day, I'll be happily working a job I probably would not have if not for his efforts and sacrifices.

I also give tribute to those who came before Dr King and those who supported him and paved the way for him to come to the forefront (Rosa Parks being one of several brought to mind). Those who know their history know that it takes many to bring one man to the position of leadership Dr King had. He took the biggest risk and did what others had not done before and paid with his life.

Happy Dr King Day folks!

Stevie Wonder ~ "Happy Birthday"
(Stevie's Tribute To Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.)

I remember reading a book about Martin Luther King, Jr. when I was in Fourth Grade. I was so fascinated by his life I must have read that same book at least five times. My Mom even told me I cried when we watched his funeral on TV in 1968, and I was only six years old at the time. He has always been and will always be an inspiration to me.

I can't imagine how difficult it must be/have been to stick with those ideals while barbarians are throwing firebombs into your home, etc.; that was quite the ultimate sacrifice well before the assassination.
