Can anyone resist the talents of this fantastic 70s singer? The tinted sunglasses, the fuzzy beard, the essence that IS "The Pina Colada Song"?? One of the greatest human beings on the face of the earth!

Drew

Yeah, but...

Drew

"Answering Machine" was better than "Escape". Or "Him". Or "Morning Man" Or......crap, that's all I got. 😕

I can easily resist 😛

Bwahahahahahahahaaaaaaaaaaa!!!

This is the funniest thing I've seen in a long time....

...a long time.

For over a thousand generations, Rupert Holmes was the guardian of peace and justice in the Old Republic.

Before the dark times, before the Empire.

I will defend to the death

your right to have a totally wrong, stupid, ignoprant and ill-considered opinion about that talentless, unoriginal, insipid so-called singer Rupert Holmes. He sucks. Poorly. He sucks a big, wet, bent, hairy, diseased moose which he fails to satisfy!

Like my fellow tank driver General Zod, I can resist him. If he has any talent at all, it is so small as to be undetectable even with the aid of an electron microscope.

I trust I have now offended you sufficiently for one day.

Now, Dan; what in bog's name are you on about with this Old Republic stuff?
What are they, a subsidiary of Banana Republic clothing stores?

To be perfectly honest, I haven't the foggiest notion of whom Rupert Holmes is. But far be it from me to spill the beans so easily on the true meaning behind my cryptic meanderings. True geeks will recognize the riff. 😉

Wow!!! You used cryptic meanderings in the same sentence. I am impressed!!! What does that mean??? LOL!!!:xpeepsofa

That song has always left me baffled... Yeah, it's catchy and who doesn't like pina coladas or getting caught in the rain, but it's basically about a couple that's decided to cheat on each other... What's so nice about that? Okay, so they discovered that had more in common than they thought they did, but it's still not romantic at all.

It's not very realistic either. Regardless of the fact that his wife posted an ad as well, a woman would never be all "hehe, we both posted personal ads in the paper". She'd be more like "You fucking jerk, I can't believe you were gonna fuck some stranger". I guess that didn't rhyme though...

THANK YOU, DENVER!!!!!!

And here I thought I was the only one who looked at the lyrics that way. Another overplayed song, so much so that the lyrics were practically injected into your head, so yeah, I still know all the words...but even "back in the day", when he got to the part about his girl walking into the bar and saying, "Aww, it's you..." I was doing a spit-take and saying, "Oh, SUUUURE, she did!!" PLEEEEEZE! He would have been reduced to a mere moist spot on the bar stool before he even had a chance to realize, "Hey, wait a minute, why were *you* posting an ad in there, you stinking little sl*t?? And now you're disappointed that I actually met your criteria??!" :evilha:

Drew

Is how few people got the joke.

Next up:
"That 'Don't Tase me, Bro!' Guy, Love him, or you're a Dick!"

It was a nice try, Drew.

I actually like Rupert Holmes's songs, especially "Him," since it wasn't overplayed like "Escape (The Pina Colada Song)" was.

But were any of you aware that back in the '80s he wrote "You Got It All", which was made famous by The Jets? Maybe this'll make you forgive him for the Pina Colada song, or perhaps this'll make you despise him even more:

Great song Frank!!! Thank you for the memories!!! The 80's music is the Absolute best!!!:rotate:

Rupert was/is a genius.."escape" is surely overplayed and overrated...as a tune on its own, I can do without it...but listening to it as part of the full concept LP "partners in crime"...it kicks off the whole concept and story of the lp perfectly. "nearsighted" and the title cut particularly are 2 of my faves on that lp.

then of corse theres his infamous and unknown to most "shobiz" lp from 1979, which was a hardcore, dark mixed with broadway disco lp (a disco sound ive not heard from any other artist in the time)..with of corse his usual make ya think mixed with humor lyrics.

then dont forget his brilliant 1978 "pursuit of happiness" lp...oh hell i could go on and on...rupert is a genius! much more to him than "escape" folks. and frankie, i never knew he wrote that jets tune...i guess theres finally a rupert tune i dont like and cant find any art in lol

You're welcome, tf4fu! (Man, it's been a long time since we last talked). Yeah, the '80s had a lot of great tunes, despite the overuse of drum machines and keyboard guitars.

Well, I'm a sucker for pretty melodies and for some reason that song struck a chord with me, so to speak. I still prefer Rupert's "Him" over "You Got It All", though.

rupert holmes....*shudders...enough said..

If you really want something to shudder about, Izzy, give a listen to this song that Rupert Holmes wrote called "Timothy," performed by The Buoys. The song is about cannabalism:
