Say something nice about somebody!

I should mention I have, among the others, a Swiss 1480 two-handed sword.

The middle one actually. The katana is the long curved blade, used for fighting. A bastard sword with a mean edge.
The wakizashi is the mid lengthed sword used as a short sword. It is also used in 1 specific type of fighting that uses both the Katana and the wakizashi, but I can't find te name right now. Also, it was used for disembowling in Japanese ritual suicide, Sepekai.
And the tanto is the small blade, the equivalent of a dagger.

Ok, I've got to ask. How do you know so much about swords and other weapons?

Salamanca is the other place famous for forging blades.

Hey, nothing wrong with being a girl 😀 I'd actually ask a guy that if he knew all of that too.

Yep, exactly. I could have bought a broadsword from Pordenone or Brescia, but those pesky italian ask a fortune for a blade of theirs.

...

Alright, now I'm curious. Who makes the best blades overall? Like whose would last the longest if I were called upon to rush onto the battlefield?

Age? How so?
Well... weapons are meant to defeat armour.
And armours gets better and better to resist weapons.

The best european armour around 1450 was Gothic-type Milanese produced.
Missaglias were among the best and most renowed armoursmith of the period.

...

Of course, if you fast forward to the 1500's, the heaviest armour is German Maximilian-type ribbed-plate.
So what was effective against Milanese plate over mail, wasn't as much against articulated ribbed-plate.

...

And so on.

...

Well, I'm just asking about who made blades that, after continued use, were less likely to snap or break at key moments or took the longest to do so?

Which is the same thing you could say for the Samurai swords. They were designed for defeating lamellar armors, not 15th century plate. Also the technique used in fighting with a Katana is different to. Alot of your european blades are pretty strictly slash and brute force (don't get me wrong there is skill involved, but that's mostly involved in getting past the other guys sword and sheild) as for Katana they are finesse and precision weapons if I am correct. Samurai would target major arteries and draw the blade across their opponent, like a razor instead of trying to bash through the armor.

Damascus blades were pretty well known, but I would say any blade that was made by folding. Also quality of the steel comes into question too. I'm pretty sure Kal knows more about this than I.

I do over earlier blades. But my memory is fuzzy and I'll avoid the topic if you are more familiar with that.

🙂
