Why Spiderman is cooler then Superman

1) his rogues gallery is far more diverse. Ok there are some stinkers in there but lets face it The Green Goblin and Doc ock rule.

2) Storys are better: Peter is a mortal, human, man and not some nearly god-like alian, he has to deal with things your (not mine) pal Kal never has too. He always had to worry about paying bills and looking out for dear sweet aunt may. Where as C.K. had an ideal job, good pay, and a mother in decent healt. Rain or shine, sleat or snow, with a busted are or sick as a dog, your Friendly Neighborhood Spiderman made the round through the bad street of NYC no matter what. Even when he was powerless he didn't shirk his responsabillities as a hero!

3) The Media: If Supergoof was fighting some giant robot, and caused heavy colateral damge the daily Planet would still kiss his big blue ass, where as in Spidy's world the Daily Bugle doesn't care if he saves the univers, that little VW beatle that got totaled in his fight with the Ryno would make thefront page. To deal with this sort of scrutiny and still carry on fighting evil Spiderman proves himself even more so.

4) Powers: Invulerability huh, well anybody can go out and face 10 super villians when nothing they do hurts you. In Maximum Carnage Spidey face off about a half dozen (or so) of the biggest phyco types in Marvel, just to by time for his allies to retreave a gizmo to win the day. Didn't matter that he almost died, because when you a real hero, thats part of the job.

5) Personal Loss: Superman's had none, Spiderman has had lots. Yet he strives forward and continues to fight the real Never Ending Battle for Justice.

And that my friends is why Spiderman is a real hero and the big blue meatball is a POSER!!!

My consern is what that goof Whedon (sp) is going to do with Wonder Woman. I'm not a fan of anything he's done in he, and I just know he;s going to stick one of those untalented bonie Buffy Bimbo's in this movie. I just hope he casts Lynda Carter as Queen Hyppolia (sp again). At least then I would be willing to sit through the opening act, before I walk out.

i'm kinda scared. tom welling would have been good in the suit, but he said he wasn't ready to shoulder that kind of responsibility, and that without micheal rosenbaum as lex, he just could not do it.
this brandon routh guy...even after months of training he could not gain enough muscle for the suit, so foam was added to bulk him out...makes him look like a terribly made Ken doll. it's the little things that bother me, really.
and kate bosworth looks like a lost teenager with bad hair...i dunno...like i said, ain't getting my hopes up.

I agree about Tom Welling. You could almost hear the comic book geeks like me groan in disappointment. But I think Brandon Routh did an excellent job, and I understand they wanted to make this movie it's own entity, not Smallville: The Movie. As for the suit, yes it was padded. But it wasn't because he couldn't bulk up enough. Actually, he bulked up more than they expected and they had to pull out some of the padding. But, Chris Reeve's suit was padded as well. Remember, Routh (like Chris Reeve) is 6'4". When you're that tall, you're pretty lean. They padded the suit to give it sufficient bulk to show up on camera. If you look at Dean Cain's Superman in Lois and Clark, he does fill out the suit nicely. He was a football player, and kept in very good shape, but he was about 6', and doesn't come across as lean as Routh or Reeve. So, that's why the padding.

As for Kate Bosworth, elsewhere someone said they removed Lois's gutsy nature. I have to agree, she didn't have as much chutzpah as I'd like, but I blame that more on the writers than the actress.

And Zod? You're not mentioned in the movie. Superman felt mentioning your pansy name wasn't necessary. He beat you down before, and wanted to spare you further humiliation. So eat it, Zod! (kidding, just kidding! Tone down the heat vision, there bud!) Actually, I rather hope they find a way for Zod to return in a sequel. Bow that SFX have caught up to Superman, a battle royale would be sweet. But no word on the sequel yet. Give it time.

I just got back from seeing it, and...

...it was freakin' EXCELLENT!!! Very enjoyable! Lots of homages to the old movies, comic books, and television series, if you know what you're looking at. This movie just simply kicked ass!

Well, far be it for me to tell someone who their favorite hero or villain are, but I object to Superman being called a poser. So, my friendly reply.

1.) His rogues gallery. Yes, Spidey has a great gallery. But what about the Parasite? Metallo? Livewire (there is one in the comics now)? Bizarro? Mongul? And of course, the prototype for all archenemies, Luthor? None of these guys are slouches.

2.) True, Spidey has an everyman quality that Supes cannot touch. But just as Spidey has never shirked his responsibilities, neither has Superman. Even when he's been powerless, he's still fought on, as Clark Kent. And, Superman has the burden of being such an icon. Really. It can be more than a little daunting to know that every hero out there, every one, loks to you for guidance, for leadership, for an example. Spidey's a hell of a hero, but he's not the ideal by which every other hero measures themselves, or is measured by. Superman is.

3.) The media. Can't argue with you there.

4.) Powers. Yes, but Spider-Man doesn't have to gauge every touch, every movement, lest he break everything around him. True, he's invulnerable, but there's Mongul, Bizarro, Metallo (a kryptonite power source, remember). Mxyzptlk, who can rearrange reality. And his strength and invulnerability didn't stop Doomsday from killing him. Superman gave his life to defend the Earth. And he came back.

5.) Personal loss. Superman lost his whole damn planet. And he strives every day to protect the planet that adopted him.

Spidey's a great hero. But without Superman, there wouldn't be a Spider-Man. Or Wolverine. Or anyone. Superman was the first. And the best.

and do you think the curse will happen again? and also is it a good idea to use an unknown like they basically did with christopher?

You know, I've heard about this supposed curse. But Kirk Alyn (who played Superman in two movie serials in the 1940's and is technically the first man to play Superman on the screen) lived to about 88. Dean Cain from Lois and Clark is still going strong. Both of the guys who played Superboy on the syndicated show from the late 80s and early 90s are fine. Tom Welling is still okay. Maybe it's just guys with the name Reeve or Reeves.

I think using an unknown is the best way to go. I'll defer to Richard Donner, who directed the first Supeman movie in 1978. He went with an unknown because he said, basically, it would be more believable that way. If you saw, say, Robert Redford, as Superman, hen people in the audience would see Rober Redford playing Superman. But if an unknown were playing him, then audiences would be able to suspend belief, and see Superman. It worked For Chris Reeve, it worked for Christian Bale in Batman Begins, and it worked for Brandon Routh in Superman Returns.
