I Would Be But....

I would be excited about the NEST but I can't go. I only live about an hour and half drive from philadelphia, but that is a bad weekend for me every year. My work is just to busy that weekend getting ready for the summer. I tried many times in the past to get the days and times changed every once in a while(Not every year just now again), so that others who can't go this time of year can go another time of year. But they never seem to care about my opinion.

It isn't that no one cares. Moving the dates because a few people cannot come would be ineffecient and ultimately a waste of money.

First let me start things off by saying I'm not asking to change the date every year just every now again have the NEST a time of year or a part of the week that works for others, maybe every 4th or 5th year change it, and the next year go back the usual dates. This way nobody can say that "they can never go" or "never get the chance to go" By keeping the NEST on the same time of year every year it looks like the people running the NEST don't care, just my opinion. As for your statement Korastus, "ineffecient and ultimately a waste of money" we don't know that until we try. Maybe if we try things once or twice and see what happens, then the NEST people can make the call. At that time they can say hey we tried a few times but it is not a good idea lets keep it at the same time every year. But in my opinion I'm sure the turn out would be just as good no matter what or when you have it. Because others like myself could go and the people who can no matter when or what time of year the NEST is.

If I'm not mistaken, there was one year within the last 5 or so that I recall a second NEST gathering was held or planned to be held in September to attempt to give those who couldn't do May a chance at the NEST experience but it was not overtly successful in terms of attendance/planned attendance. (I remember the talk but don't recall if the event occurred or not) The NEST gathering has been around since the mid-late nineties (it's older than the TMF itself) when it was just Max Speer and a handful of other people so there is a lot of tradition involved when it comes to NEST; I believe that includes the time period NEST is held.

To change it up one year may give many people who haven't gone the chance to go, but it may also antagonize those who could go in May but can't now at the new date for whatever reason. On top of that, there are a several gatherings and a ton of munches that are held at various points over the year so one of those may be better suited to your timetable. I do understand your point of view but, while I hate to take this point of view personally, look at it from a business sense - why sacrifice a guaranteed yes for a maybe? Just because they change the date to better suit you, for example, it doesn't necessarily mean you can make it for a variety of reasons; most common being affordability because the fact is NEST is expensive. On top of that, an extraordinary amount of planning and work is required by NEST Team to facilitate a gathering so a date change may end up being a detriment to the planners.

I'm not sure if NEST Team is still actively looking at holding a second NEST in a calendar year or not but given that NEST is so steeped in tradition, more so then probably any other tickle gathering, I would harbor a guess that a date change for one year is unlikely. IMO.

Actually, by having the event at the same time every year they show that they do care, because one has an entire year to plan, save their $$, tell their work that they need that time off, etc. That's more than fair. The college students and those of us with children who may have important end-of-school-year events occasionally have to miss a NEST year or two, but ultimately having a set date works best.

NEST is an entire three-day weekend, and you live just 90 minutes away. Are you truly unable to schedule even one evening off to drive up and back? With a year's notice?
