Yesterday in my Creative Activities for Children class, The professor was teaching us sing songy games to do with babies. Almost every one of them included a form of tickling the baby.

She said that babies love to be tickled and laugh and squeal. She went on to warn us to make sure the tickling did not become torturous and asked if we remembered as kids being over tickled.

*sigh* I wonder if it ever entered her consciousness that there may be people who enjoy this.

As I said, Sometimes being "Vanilla" is hard.

Have a great weekend folks.

hi jen, yes i know what you mean

i wonder though, if this instructior isn't a tickle lover to some extent. during my peds rotation we were never taught about tickling. i asked my wife, and she said they never mentioned that during her teachers training (education). so maybe the instructor is secretly one of us!

Not everyone is the same. Some people just don't like to be tickled. Thinking empathically is the best way deal with hard truths of the vanilla world.

Teach has a point, tho

Um, I've been a preschool teacher for over ten yrs and a mommy for 5, and I'm glad your instructor mentioned this. Even little future ticklephiles can be over-tickled; it happened to me on many occasions as a little girl, and that feeling of overwhelm that I crave now was kinda heinous then since I didn't yet understand it. Sometimes well meaning grownups can take it too far, though they don't mean to (reason #1 so many vanilla girls HATE tickling).
Tickle nicely when they're small, and hopefully someone else can tickle reallly nicely in 18 yrs

SO true... I never was taught anything about tickling in any of my classes... (dealing with development and psychology)... But I started getting really curious about my love for tickling when I was in college and actually started researching about it. It lead me to the internet community, but I also found TONS of nonfiction psychology books that had whole sections in them about tickling. I would sit and read them in the dark lower level portion of the library where even the bravest students did not venture... and I never DARED to check them out.

Honestly... Good reading! They don't put that in books now a days! I learned a lot about myself and other things. 🙂

I don't know if the professor was one of us, but tickle games are so common as kids. Think back... some of us were tickled more then than we are now.
