Songs that move you to tears..

"Don't Give Up", from Kate Bush, with backing vocals by Peter Gabriel.

I was just going to mention that one. That's one very, very teary song (especially if you watch the "hugging" videoclip) but so beautiful!

Add to that both "The Highwayman" and "The Lady of Shalott" by Loreena McKennit. Two tales of tragically impossible love...

It's not really a song, but the score at the end of A.I. made me blub, when David gets his mum back for a day. Another is Cavatina by Stanley Myers, from the film The Deer Hunter.

Harry Chapin- "Cat's in the cradle" is still the standard.

personally the song makes me think of how I'm turning into my mother >m< but its still so damn beautiful. I choke up.

The Offspring- "The kid's aren't alright" and "Hammerhead" are two of my newer pullers of the heart strings.

Let's see....

"God Bless America" by Kate Smith. Shook hands with Ms. Smith after after our drum corps escort the 1975 Stanley Cup Champions Philadelphia Flyers.

"Precious and Few" by Climax. Drum corps standard back in the 70s.

"Chase The Clouds Away" by Chuck Magione. Blue Devils from California won their first championship with the song. Bonnie Ott (Drum Corps Hall of Fame) was the soloist.

"MacArthur's Park" by Maynard Ferguson. Too many memories associated with this one. Got to meet The Master once around our birthdays (His was May 4th, mine is May 7th and both trumpet players).

As many times that I have heard "Amazing Grace" on bagpipes, it gets me. "Flowers of the Forest" is another. A lament that is very popular at graveside.

There are others, but I will not include them here.

I've been through it recently but anyone who has lost a friend "Cryin' for Me (Wayman's Song)" by Toby Keith

Met Toby last year in Washington DC when he was awarded the Distinguished Service Award from the Military Officers of America Association for his service in entertaining our military overseas. I think he dislocated my thumb when I shook hands with him. I heard a crack and my thumb looked nasty. It took me several minutes to straighten it out.

Wayman's Song'll do it. My new fave is Taylor Swift's "Mine"--brings me to happy tears 'cuz it's like and Senshi's song--it's SCARY accurate ^^ Also love her "Love Story"

Samuel Barber's Adagio for Strings. (Heard many times saying goodbye to a friend)

Fanfare for the Common Man (Actually got to play)

Rhapsody in Blue & American in Paris
Shostakovich Symphony No 5 Allegro Non Troppo (Last Movement).

Good memories, but sad for the last three. Memories from my teenage years.

It was the Best of Times, the Worst of Times.....

It's funny that even those opposed to one anothers veiws can agree on something..
That piece you posted is hauntingly beautiful...The first time I ever heard it was at the end of a movie called 'Gallipoli'...and due to the circumstances of the scene..the lump went right to the throat.

If you like that piece... Go here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1dPDO3Tfab0

It is a piece called Adagio for Strings. It was used as the primary Music Score for a Film called the Elephant Man in the early 80's and again in the late 80's as the primary score for Platoon. It is also very haunting and brings a lump to the throat.
