I must say it is rather interesting, the juxtaposition of the height of technology in the Gorgonhelm, X-Minus-Zero, and all the accompanying technology therein with the sword and shields the Commander and his band of not so merry commandos (Well, maybe Troppo is merry. 😛) carry.
The disparity is deliberate (Blast! I can sneak nothing past you!) Its the same dilema George Lucas faced in
Star Wars (something he worked out better than me... but then, George is a
geeenius)... keeping combat close and intimate in an atmosphere of firearms. My approach was two-fold: first, to take differing levels of cultural development into account. Lithia, for instance, comes from a D&D-type world that never discovered gunpowder (and actually such invention had nothing to do with me. The character, her background and her traits were all devised by the girl who played the part). Lithia uses a sword because that's what she's been trained with and knows intimately. Second was to make hand-to-hand weaponry personal to its user, so that carrying one became a point of pride. Any underling can point and fire a gun (well, no... it's not
really that easy, but we made it seem so on the show)... learning to duel takes discipline and a sense of honor.
And, yes, Troppo is ever merry! It's built into his DNA!

This latest pages have been very interesting. Bunch of guys vs. a bulldozer!
Thank you, Janus! A nice compliment! I'm glad you enjoyed that bit! It was most likely inspired by the tug-of-war scene in
Mighty Joe Young (the 1949 RKO version... I've never seen the Disney remake, so don't know if the incident is in there too), where Joe is pitted against a dozen of the day's best-known professional wrestlers! I wanted some activity where regular crew could become involved (considering the possible outcome, I'm not sure they were flattered by the thought!) Too, I was anxious to establish the waste disposal facility and its disintegrator... this hazard will be seen again!
