This thread makes me giggle for obvious reasons.

Marauder and I seem to be opposite ends of the spectrum on many topics, but he leaves my posts alone. Instead, he just riles me up till I feel all rude and dirty for posting when I'm irked! lol MEN!🙄 😉

I gotta say, it's the flame bait that I've seen removed over the last couple of years....and they are pretty lenient with that sticking around too. If they pulled everything they wanted to based on views, many of us would have only about half the number of posts that we currently have! 😀

Try this one, spies. Normally we just completely edit out the drive by off topic comments, but sometimes deleting them entirely makes more sense. The ones you're referring to were of that nature, one "leaning upon" the next, and therefore all becoming irrelevant when the intial post was removed.

There's no government employees here, and as always, presenting opinion as "fact" leads to problems. Learn the rules and acceptable behavior, as you've been told before, and you'll find posting much easier and more productive. Q

Dictatorship doesn't imply a rule of one, if you look at my posts on politics Dave. And to the best of my knowledge the TMF isn't remotely democratic. Mods discuss problems together, but Myr has the final say on any given subject; even if a delegated mod implements it. I gather that selection of new mods is a subject on which other mods have NO say whatsoever.

Anyway, enough of boring the arse of everyone. I'll sit down and shut up now. 😀

Actually mods have a good bit of say in who new mods are. In fact, they are the people who often bring possible new canidates to my attention. Also, I would never add a mod that current staff has problems with so they can (and have) vetoed selections.

While final choices and calls fall to me, (someone has to make the final decisions, and here it's I) I rely on the forum's staff to make the place run on a day to day basis. Without them this place would not work. Because of this, I value, and listen to their input. I make few big changes to forum policy without a solid discussion with the people who will enforce them, and have to live with them.

So yes, I can make decisions dictitorially (and on occasion have). But if I do, I may well look back and find no one behind me. And this place is not a job I could do alone. So it all balances out. We seem to make it work.

I think that the left view posts tend to get pulled more because they're more controversial than the right view posts.

I dunno. Seems to me that controversy itself would hardly be grounds for being pulled. But if, like mentioned by others in this thread, it were accompanied by personal attacks...at any rate, I refuse to form/convey an opinion on this subject for two reasons:

1) I have read few, if any, posts that have been deleted or editted, so the lack of information prevents me from forming what I consider to be a valid opinion.

2) As stated by jen, it is not our place to complain. We're guests here. If you have a problem with the rules, leave.

Sorry Myr, I apologise if I misquoted ya. My knowledge of mod prmotions comes soley from a conversation I had with you in the old chat room, what must be about 18 months-2 years ago. When I asked you how one became a mod, to which you replied "when I think we need some more, I pick em". I guess I inferred more than was meant.

It's more controversial than just about any thread ever posted, but it still stands. Not only does it stand but it's growing!

I don't ever recall you posting something so damning of America's leaders past and present, but yet it remains there. Does'nt that show that the mods are just the teensy-est bit more broad-minded than you give them credit for?

We actually care little if something is obvious or not. One mistake people have made in the past is to try the old "Go ahead, I dare you to remove this" trap. That alone won't get a thread or a post edited or removed. Nor will it keep it in place based solely on fear of "appearing" Stalinist, Hiterist, Marxist or all the other labels folks throw around without fully understanding thier meaning.

It's all about the content. 😎

not every single post gets pulled, but those that get pulled for no apparent reason other than political opinion are usually critical of the government or power structure.

both stalin and hitler used to censor the press this way they were more similar than alike, in fact stalin probably killed more leftists than hitler.

i dont know why people like jenn are going after me for "breaking the rules or whatever. i stated once and ill state it again that no where in the rules does it say certain points of view can not be heard. if your going to censor people for opposing political points of view than put it in the rules or stop doing it.

i did complain about this before, but what made me start this post was when i criticized margeret thatcher for praising a fascist dictator who murdered thousands of people. the origional post had a quote by her supposedly about freedom, this was obviously hypocritical and i posted to share my view. there was nothing negative in any way directed at the origional poster, and there would be no reason to anyway, yet the post was still pulled.

Yup... My history teacher always told me people get more conservative with age, and it's proven by countries like the Sovietunion. Anyway, after the revolution, the Soviet leaders became extremely conservative; being progressive/leftist means change, but they didn't want to change anything because they had the power...

As to the removed posts, they were pulled due to excessive flame wars that broke out in them, not because of their content. I could not give a toss if a thread is about politics, philosophy, music, or the color blue. If flames break out in the thing we'll pull it.

Threads leave due to fighting, not content (The exception being threads that we feel are forum matters and better dealt via mail, not the case here).

Why do most political threads vanish? Because people can't keep to any standard of good behavior in most of them and flame people. The political threads seem to draw the attack posters like moths to flames.
