OK, so maybe that's not the best title. But, it makes it clear what I'm looking for. Drew and I got talking earlier about the types of music we used to enjoy while partying. I was just wondering what types of stuff everyone else liked when they're stoned.

Me? I used to listen to Police, AC/DC, Queen, the Dead, etc. Since I rarely smoke any more, there's no real pattern to my current likes. You can probably tell from the selections above when my old party days were! lol

Apparently, The Doors sound good only if you're stoned. An ex-bandmate told me.

I usually listen to Loreena McKennitt (for, like, real relaxed days) or P J Harvey (for that nasty bummer trip, dude). Doors, of course. NOT The Cure, never again (don't try it, trust me). Beatles are good, too. Something classic, sometimes - Mozart or Ludvig van (Though he's pretty noise, man... *giggle giggle*)

errr... Is this a trick-thread to bust us all on posession, Mrs FBI? 😛

Anyone here of Coldplay and Travis? Blutones and the Stereophonics?

Well, I listen to them whenever, I'm a bit of a rock-person...but I do like my oldies, lol. Queen, Bowie, The Eagles (I kid you not)...lots of stuff. The only thing I'll never touch is Nu metal. My God, it's like a drill in the back of your spleen...

good question.........

For me its JTQ and Head Hunters, and then when every one is really wankered I might put on the RAF band playing old favourites like "Battle of Britain Suite", "633 Squadron", and "The Dam Busters" bloody marvellous!!!

Loong ago...

It's been about 25-30 years since I indulged. Skynard, Mott the Hoople, Hot Tuna, Canned Heat, 10 Years After, & the Stones...if memory serves. If I ever tried again (nah...just not me anymore), it would be Enya, fer sure! Q

Um, Grateful Dead, anyone? Too obvious?

I was a major stone-henge for almost half of my life. Yesterday, I not only turned 32, but I also celebrated my one-year anniversary of not smoking pot. I've NEVER gone this long without it. For 15 years I smoked almost daily, at the least weekly.

But, when one battles legally for their children's best interest, one realizes one needs the clarity of mind smoking pot every day doesn't offer.

Oh but man, I loved my Grateful Dead. Still do, really.
Doors, yes, but especially Jim's poetry/music album "American Prayer."
I also liked, on sunny, hot days, to throw down ska -- particularly the kings of ska, The Specials.
Depending on the atmosphere I wanted to create, I was (and am) also very fond of Massive Attack and Groove Armada.

And the politicians throwing stones
So the kids they dance and roll them bones
Singing ashes to ashes, all fall down
Ashes to ashes, all fall down.

Gratefully,
Boomabong

Lil' Goody-Goody that I am, I never actually smoked that sweet herb 'til I was in my mid-twenties, with my toddler safe in her bed and my hubby nearby to take care of me if I got strange (ok, stranger). And then only twice (they said I wasn't doing it right, grumble)BUT, I went to all manner of theatre parties in college where it was very much in the air, I'm sure I had my share without realizing it 🙄.

My favorite mellow-out grooves for such occasions are the quiet Beatle tunes-Martha My Dear and the other White Album riffs, Abbey Road, etc. Carole King and James Taylor, Indigo Girls, and some of the calmer Oasis stuff too. And, oddly enough, Fats Waller and Bo Diddley 😎

Some of my favorite stoner music? The more obscure the better, some of the pre-ZZ Top stuff like The Moving Sidewalks and American Blues,
or Ultimate Spinach, or The Litter. As far as the classic rock things, early King Crimson and Pink Floyd(Syd Barrett days), Jethro Tull, Status Quo, Traffic, Ten Years After, and Robin Trower.

Why did I get in on this thread? There's Soooooo many good tunes to buzz by...Couldn't begin to name them all, but I'll list some of the best I can remember: (Yes! I remember things from the stoned age!)

First and foremost, PINK FLOYD, DARK SIDE OF THE MOON. You don't have to smoke pot to get high, just listen to this album. If you ARE high when you listen to it, don't plan on coming back to earth for a while. The Floyd seems to excel at stoner music, as all their albums send you careening headlong into the twilight zone.

Boston, 1 & 2. Jethro Tull, Aqualung. Queen, The Game. Anything AC/DC, especially Hell's Bells and Big Balls. Gotta disagree with ya for a change, Chimp; the Doors sound good anytime. And Q, your guess is correct. Enya has the best music produced in recent years to buzz by. (It's true, it's true!) Anyone remember Fastway? John Cougar Mellenhead's first 2 albums. EAGLES. Blue Oyster Cult, Cultosaurus Erectus. Anything Alan Parsons. Lest we forget the BEATLES. Collective Soul. The Association. (Yes, I'm that damn old.)

Okay kids, light your pipes and continue your music critique class.

Cultosaurus Rxx

Crosby,Stills,Nash,&Young---Four Way Street-Live
Yes---Tales From Topographic Oceans
Renaissance---Prologue, Ashes Are Burning, Scheherazade,
Pink Floyd---Any album

Me I always loved Pink Floyd first and foremost. Then maybe after that it would be Alice Cooper, Aerosmith, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, and ZZTop.

Actually, I'm indulging as I write this, so I'll just tell you what's in the CD tray right now...Marillion's "Misplaced Childhood", a fantastically trippy concept album that blows your head open if you get sucked in.

Usually during these moments (ok...hours, lay off) I like more synthesizer-based music, so my stoner playlist (yes, sadly I actually have a WinAmp playlist called 'weed tunes') includes a lot of older Genesis, ELP, '80's Rush, Manfredd Mann, Uriah Heep, Saga, Yes, Asia...shit like that.

If I'm particularly hyperspaced, A good dose of Phish sits nicely atop my cranium, "Rift" or "Junta" works well here.

A lot of times, I'll just fire up my sythns, start some weird, minor-chord backtrack and just solo for a while...see what comes out or just make strange sounds.

Note to fellow smoker/keyboardists: Even in this highly digital age, do yourself the favor of owning at least one old analog synth...they are a hoot to screw around with when imbibing.

😎

When I smoke I get really perceptive of rhythm and music. I appreciate a good beat and a strong voice more than anything else. Depending on the mood, I find myself listening to Nine Inch Nails, Bob Marley, the Beatles, and REO Speedwagon the most. And ya gotta love Enya, so meditative. Also nice is Celtic guitar music and drumming, I find that really peaceful

Thanks for reminding me of ol' REO, Maria. Their '70's stuff is great to just kick back and vegitate over.

🙄 They found me out! Yes, the replies to this post will be immediately turned over and everyone admitting drug use sentenced to life imprisonment...in a tickle club, where you can indulge in BOTH as much as you like! hehe 😉

How about Bob Dylan? Say what you will about his singing voice, the man can turn a phrase. Also if you ever have an hour to kill the Lou Reed album "New York" comes to mind. Obviously Floyd, the Who, Doors. And as a Grateful Dead tour alumni,(100+ shows) dates start comming to mind like 9-10-91 (phily) 7-10 90 (Nc) 9-3-88 (dc)..........just don't get me started.lol Good topic.

Peace

Ed

I have over 1000 mp3s at the moment, a little bit of everything

right now i'm listening to some rap, but i think i gotta help rep sublime--grateful dead, doors, pink floyd. Also I really like the Clash (London Calling best album ever). Also listening to some Pavement, Counting Crows, Paul Simon, Fountains of Wayne, Hendrix, Marley, lots of things.

Okay, Scooby, as if your name isn't cool enough in my book...

Fellow deadhead here. (Hi to Edv -- over 100 shows?!)

AND...

London Calling is in heavy rotation in my car cassette player. Though my life I've always come back to The Clash. Rudy Can't Fail, and the entirety of Side 2, are just the greatest songs in the world. Definitely my stranded-on-a-deserted-island album.

Okay, back to the thread.

Boom Strummer

Yeah man, London Calling is just a spectacular album--you should check out some Sublime or something--they're different, but they kick ass all the same!

Also, did you know that if you watch the Wizard of Oz with Dark Side of the Moon playing simultaneously, instead of the dialogue, it's some crazy shit--the music cues events and goes along with the mood of the movie--it's pretty awesome.

The Clash rocks major ass. A punk band that can actually paly their instruments. Oh, and that Doors comment was not mine, but from an ex-band member, Tkrexx.

by the way, two aweseome videos to download:

Peter Gabriel "Sledgehammer"
The Avalanches "Fronteir Psychiatrist" (Maybe Psychiatry)

Scoob, I just got a video from my local head shop similar to the Wizard of Oz/ Pink Floyd thing. It's Willy Wonka synched up with Rush's 2112 and Hemispheres...freaky shit....:wow:

Stoner Music?

Alan Parsons Project: "I Robot" and "Tales of Mystery and Imagination"

Now THAT'S music to get HI By!😎 :wavingguy :bat:
