Stop Calling Grown Women "Girls"

You completely misunderstood the thread and my post. I didn't refer to any humans as dicks. I referred to the childish bickering you all are doing as a "dick-measuring contest." But it's not like this is the first example of ignorance you've given here.

Rewrite it again.

"Dick measuring contest" is a demeaning way to refer to males who are having a heated discussion. You can either be respectful and not use it, or you can just say you're going to say whatever you want. Women would be respectful and not say it. Girls, however.....

I'd have more respect for you if just simply say you don't want to be respectful towards males, which is totally cool. But you can't have it both ways.

Honestly, I do want to be respectful towards all people, just not the individual males involved in that "discussion" at that point in time. 🙂

See, life is a lot more complex than "you can't have it both ways." There are lots of ways one can have it. I would suggest working on your dialectical thinking. It may help you in many other "discussions" you find yourself in. 🙂

Well, it's not the first example of hypocrisy you've shown. But, for someone who smokes pot and has probably smoked away some of their brain cells, I'm not surprised. Not to mention someone who from what I hear posts bare breasted photos of themselves on a tickle forum for attention. Nothing says "take me seriously" as much as that does. 🙂

At least you can in so many words conceded that you essentially just make the "rules" up as you go along.

Intelligent input. I find people who feel confident in their stance and have a lot of good points to make typically stoop to personal insults.

I didn't know you can't have breasts and be taken seriously, though I've been suspicious of that for a while now.

Omitting information that goes against your contention isn't fake news. It's just disingenuous.

That's pretty much all you've been doing throughout this thread, including this example. Virginie presents some valid information, with links to back it up and instead of addressing that, you try to discredit her by suggesting she's deliberately left something out....whilst conveniently omitting any details of what you're actually accusing her of (in the hope that others will just take your word for it)

You have one tactic, which is to continually misrepresent the views and actions of others in order to cast them in a bad light. You are undoubtedly one of the most disingenous people on here.

Hey, new rules, right? That's how this game goes; isn't that the game you wanted to play? You don't have a problem with personal insults. If you want to go back to playing on a level playing field because you don't have the stomach to be held to the rules (or lack of) that you wanted to play by, let me know.

Oh no, of course you can have breasts and be taken seriously. Women with class, for instance. Flashing them in a tickle forum though for no other reason than attention is another story.

To be fair, her original post included no links.

In the OED one of the definitions of girl is 'A woman of any age'. Seeing as semantics were mentioned....

Not even any elaboration aside from her claim of one of the definitions being "a woman of any age."

To which she had to clarify days later with a link that not everyone can see, which ultimately makes her point meaningless, and a different definition than that which she put quotes around, implying it was something verbatim.

Thus, she purposefully paraphrased a definition which may or may not be accurate (I would imagine someone trying to support their point wouldn't choose an inconvenient and inaccessible website as their source) in order to make her seem more correct. A stance which ultimately deteriorated when pressed to elucidate.

Try the full OED, link is http://www.oed.com/view/Entry/78475. If you don't have access to it then you should be able to sign in through your local library.

This definition may not be the most useful in defense of the word as it was: "Attested earlier in (often derogatory) reference to women with respect to their occupation or social status: see senses 7 and 6." These two senses are prostitution and servant work, but do not that the word often is used, not always. However, another definition is the following:

"Used as a form of address to a girl or woman. See also my girl at my adj. 2a.Often (esp. in later use) in informal contexts, implying intimacy or friendship between the speaker and the person addressed." Note woman, which contradicts the claim that there is always an age element to the word girl, and intimacy or friendship.

I would be surprised if your local librarian cannot get you access, so you (and Wolf, if reading this) can check that I haven't just made something up and attributed it to the OED. My fault, I should have made it very clear where I was quoting from, especially as this is such a charged issue.

No one is imposing rules but you.

Again, personal insults. Let me know when you have something of substance to contribute. Keep giving my tits the attention you claim I was so thirsty for though, I guess? lol

Next time you're whining about how there are "hardly any real women on this forum..."

Not at all. You can post pictures of your breasts for attention if you want, nobody is telling you that you can't.

Just that it's difficult to take you seriously as a woman, or as having anything meaningful to say that isn't so vapid and hypocritical.

I didn't have to. They did it themselves, when they attempted to "clarify" their remarks.

You really think one side of the argument only has 3 people on it?
Really?
Or do you think the TMF is an accurate cross-section of society?

Not at all, but I've yet to see yourself, chicago or anyone produce any evidence that most or even a large proportion of women actually feel this way - which is what you would expect if someone is asking that people change their behaviour towards all women. If women on the whole did feel this way, to the extent that they stopped using the word 'girl' to refer to themselves and others I would have no problem with dropping the term completely. The issue that most people have is that it's an opinion held by a minority of people.

"as a woman" ? Is it different taking women seriously vs taking men seriously?

How about you sit this one out, clown? And stop whining.

Speaking of vapid...

Why would you need to "evidence" to know what the majority of women actually think? You seem to know just fine all by yourself.

Oh no, let me elucidate: I can take you seriously as a girl (according to your definition). I can't take you seriously as a woman.

Wow, you really didn't like that word huh

Please do, I'd love a good story to read next time i'm stoned. And please include when you first realized it was so tiny

Well, at least we know now it's likely that you're missing some brain cells. So that explains your banal posts and why you're an absolute zero. However, why you seem to be obsessed with tiny dicks, is another story, and sounds personal. That's a story I don't wish to read.

From tv news segments in the 60s / 70s featuring Betty Friedan on a late-night show correcting a man referring to her as a "girl" to Mayim's video here, it's not a new idea.

There are many articles, posts on other forums, etc online that echo my sentiments.

I like this one:

https://graziadaily.co.uk/life/opinion/ok-refer-women-girls/

I don't have specific statistics, but it is my impression that there are many women who would prefer to not be infantilized.
