The Face of A Terrorist

Shark, not forced literally, but pressured. We say that one can believe anything they want. Then we immediately ask "Why would you believe something like that?" or say "That's not right." maybe not in those words, exactly.

JoBelle, I am certain that there are ways for them to carry out their missions and live. Becoming a human bomb just requires less (if any)strategizing. Homicide bomber, in my opinion, fails to convey the fact that they blew themselves up in the process. I mean, Oklahoma City could be considered a homicide bombing, right? Still, on the other hand, "suicide bomber" fails to indicate that they killed others. Perhaps we should combine the two terms. But then, nothing that does so really sounds like it could be a word...huicide? Somocide? Suihomicide? And so forth...suggestions, anyone?

It's amazing...

Ever notice that whenever someone calls into question what this country is doing or has done or is capable of doing, some other "Americans" call into question their love for this country....and ask them (or tell them) to leave? It's funny actually. 🙄 I was waiting for it to happen (to ShiningIce in this case), and talons and areenactor delivered. lol

Ironically, it's the ones who do question and criticize the imperfections that actually encourage change--for the better in this case. If all of them left, America would be left with folks who could not (or would not) make any difference whatsoever.

That makes for good soldiers (i.e., following orders without question) but poor citizenship.

On everything else, I'll defer to maverick83.... he seems to be impressively holding down the fort on sound reasoning.

😎

I guess you're aloud to speak your mind as long as it doesnt go against the grain..................

maverick,frink,shining ice

I am not trying to get personal or nasty, but this topic has been discussed before.Do you honestly expect people who disagree with you to just accept your opinions?Everyone is allowed to have them, but that doesn't make them worth a shit.I could be of the opinion that I am computer literate, whereas someone who actually is would have a problem with it.Since I'm not,I should defer, but have the right not to.

Why on earth anyone would let detractors intimidate them because of their opinion is beyond me.The situation may be not worth a fight, but that deosn't mean you have to bend.If someone wants to question my motives or meaning,I'll explain them.If they don't like them, and I see no reason to change,it's their tough cookies.

As far as leaving the country,I'll put it another way. This society has set up certain rules with which to run itself over time.If you feel so strongly that we are so bad, leave the society,as it doesn't suit you.If I was in the Japanese style of society,I would run.

As far as speaking your mind, everyone here is doing exactly that.I fail to see any persecution, and apparently the mods fail to see it,too.

Sound reasoning? If that's what you want to call it,you can have your opinion.

maybe it's samantics?

i never told ice he has to get out. i suggested that if he finds america so bad, why does he stay? i even offered to pay his way out! now i call this being generous!

as another stated, we are all entitled to state our opinions, and others are entitled to disagree with us. thats another reason why this country is so great, we all have these liberties!

i do get disgusted with people who bad mouth our country, and it has been my experience that those same people don't bother voting! so who is actually making a difference, the ones who love the country and vote, or the ones who whine, and sit at home on election day?!?!

steve

How would you know wether I vote or not?? Those who see no faults are responsible for the decay of our nation, those who recognize cracks and point them out help save it.

Peace, shark LOL

I only posted a response to one or two posters' (all too familar) call to "leave the country" when someone disagrees. (btw...your previous post(s) did not fall into that category.) No one else (I think) tried a similar attempt to bully consensus from others. That's what that kind of talk essentially is....b/c it's certainly not an argument of any point based on reasoning. To me, the disagreement is what probably makes the whole thread worthwhile.

As for the rest....I just said I agreed with a lot of what maverick was saying. That's all. (Sue me. LOL)

I look at all of this as a harmless debate/discussion. And quite frankly, this one seems milder than others I can think of, IMHO.

Cracks?

Actually, those who help patch the cracks (or do the work) are helping more than those who point to them. I assume you also actively work towards correcting problems rather than just run around going "look at that problem!"...which we already have more than enough journalists actively doing for a living! The "love it or leave it" theme is getting a bit played, but the cry of "we're not perfect" is weak also...of course we're not, and of course everyone who criticizes the country shouldn't therefore be leaving it. If we extend that analogy, I'd be thrown off every ship I've ever sailed on, since I usually think they are maintained like crap and tend to say so!
Anyway, to get back to the original topic, using children for this type of "war" activity is akin to statutory rape....a child is not mature enough to form a coherent decision making process in matters this imperative. Anyone found aiding this procedure needs to be dealt with severely...this is a travesty of horror. Q

So now we're getting into voting

I don't vote. Why? Because as far as what concerns me, I feel that it doesn't matter who we elect. It's actually something I admire about this country. We are granted the same rights by our system regardless of who we elect. Also, I'd like to ask why it is that as soon as we criticize our government, we're seen as verbally attacking it. I've said it before, and I repeat: This is an excellent country, in comparison with others that exist. However it is FAR from ideal, not at all because of the way it is set up, but due to the mentality of the majority of its citizens(which is still, in my opinion, excellent in comparison with other countries.) Those who have lashed out at me have demonstrated this mentality very clearly. I would also like to add that I am not trying to alter anyone's opinions. I am merely establishing the realization that we don't all have to agree, and that just because we disagree doesn't mean we can't get along. Is it possible to tell someone that you disagree with them without becoming the target of slander and unwanted suggestions?

You disagree?

Ummm...no. 😛 Well, okay, it IS possible, but you have to pick someone to disagree with that understands the process of the forum and how a discussion works, otherwise it devolves into a "oh yeah?" and "Says who?" and all semblance of lively conversation gets lost! I've actually (gasp) learned a few things from some of the people here...and gotten to listen to a few problems from an international point of view, which can be quite educational and eyepopping at times! If you like, I can throw out a few bold statements and then we can practice disagreeing amicably? 😉 Q

heh...yeah, that's pretty much how it goes. Oh, well. I really don't mind. It can be entertaining.

Frink

Sue me? Naaaaaah.........just got done reading the lawsuit thread lol.
