In couple billion, billion years, the sun will go out, and the Earth will freeze.

Actually in four thousand, five hundred million years,(or four and a half billion as you yanks who can't count, would put it) the sun will turn into a Red Giant as it's hydrogen fuel sources deplete. This will cause the sun to swell and engulf Mercury, Venus and Earth. Mars, Jupiter and Saturn will enjoy a brief million years or so of warmth and then all the outer layers of the sun will destabilise and eject into space causing a planetary nebula. The core of the sun will be left remaining as a White Dwarf, which will shine on for maybe 100,000 years under it's old energy with no nuclear fusion actually taking place within it. After the residual fusion-created energy is used up, the white dwarf will turn into a glob of black ash, called a Black Dawrf. The larger planets such as Jupiter and Saturn will have long since buggered off into space to cause some other poor Solar System some trauma as they bi-pass it's planets.

Of course we will have spread through neighbouring solar systems for definate, within the next 5,000 years and probably a lot sooner, (providing we don't destroy ourselves in the meantime) so I would'nt lose too much sleep over it. 😀

And just to set the record straight, it wasn't "underpants" but "pants". Of course we English call pants by the their proper name of trousers 🙂D) so we don't get as confused as a Texan put in a trash can and told to piss in the corner, when we quote sit-coms. Fight anyone?🙂😛
