Haven't seen the film. I have sworn off sequels unless it's a superhero sequel or part of a known trilogy (i.e. Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, etc.)

So what makes her a nut? Being hungry or talking about a movie? (Those damn wordy letters always confusing me)

Naaw, the whole crazy bit is an act. Gives them an excuse to be the way they are, but I bet behind every female action is a carefully planned purpose.

But... Pirates 3 is part of a trilogy.

Ok, so you are telling me that the Pirate films were a planned story from the get go and the three of them together tells an intricate tale in much the way Star Wars did?

Yep! Since Star Wars wasn't planned to be a trilogy to begin with. Lucas was completely unsure he was gonna be able to make Empire or Jedi, which is why A New Hope works as a stand alone film. Much the way that you can watch Curse of the Black Pearl and not need the other two films. But if you do watch the other two, the events of CotBP play into them in pretty much the same was that ANH flows into the last two Star Wars films. Most modern movies these days are planned to be trilogies (seriously, producers are totally obsessed with trilogies these days), but are usually made in a way that if a second film doesn't get made, it won't hurt the first.

Well mess with my percieved view of reality why don't you. What I really wanted from a Pirates sequel was the next adventure of Jack Sparrow, not the bloody three musketeers (which is a great book btw). So I decided to boycott the rest.

Ya know, it's been a really long time since I saw Rush Hour. RH2 was pretty good from what I remember, though. I still prefer Jackie Chan's older movies, though. Rumble in the Bronx and stuff like that.

Yep! The original treatment was titled "The Star Wars," had only a similar plot and characters, and spanned the events that would later make up the three movies. Lucas had to break the story down into three parts, each short enough to be a single feature film. Since he wasn't sure that "The Empire Strikes Bacl" was going to be made, he simply focused on creating "A New Hope" which didn't even bear the title "Episode IV" when it originally was released. It was only after he was assured a chance to make "Empire" that ANH was re-released, now stating "Episode IV" and marking it as the beginning of a trilogy. The concept of making the full trilogy wasn't assured from the beginning, which is why ANH works as a stand-alone film.

But that would indicate to me that Star Wars was always planned to be a trilogy, even though the other two chapters weren't assured. And trilogy is an inefficient term, as the plan was nine chapters.
