The Rocking has shut down his site

Mention the law and guess who shows up.......

I saw it mentioned that theft of copyright wasn't theft per se', but more like a con trick that robbed producers of revenue.

From the law's POV theft is perfectly possible with non-physical property and it treats such cases equally. This extends to copyright theft, theft of intellectual property (such as the contents of a novel or the designs for an invention) and theft of a registered trademark. Theoretically the sentence for stealing the copyright on PPV clips could be identical to one passed for theft of physical property of equal value.

Okay guys, you can wake-up now. 😀

Just for chat value: oddly enough, in italian, "fabbricare" has a neutral connotation, meaning "to build/to engineer". I was aware of its english meaning though.

So, be sure I don't make things up. I can relate them wrong, though. But not on purpose.

If you have to time to spare, please read through that older thread, so you'll see where I inferred from the notion you likened piracy to a prison-crime.

[An idea I don't entirely endorse, that's why I found it radical]

And now, where is that calumet of yours? 🙂

*I* feel that copyright infringement isn't proper theft.

And from a category point of view, I should endorse stricter laws.

Yet, I feel we should be more lenient. But it is just my [humble...] opinion, and I feel we should re-think copyright as a whole.

I think the way software producers are defending it is not viable.
Copy protections end up being more a burden, a liability, than an assurance against loss of profits.

But this is another thread... Silver Cherry/Evan [don't know his second name so I can't help but calling him by first name] just said I misquoted him.

...

Laws on conceptual properties are simply laughable, in italy...
They even amended them since they were quite unpopular with the prospective electorate.

Thats funny because I was starting to think that I was totally nuts, and so I did go over that older thread and I honestly I couldn't find anything where I likened the act of piracy as being severe enough to qualify for prison time. My position is and has always been that copying copyrighted material is piracy to be dealt with however the law outlines which I'm certain does not include jail time, at least not at this level.

"Fabricate" was just my euphemism of choice used to try and keep things on a civil level.

The calumet has been dusted and screened and is now awaiting stuffage. If only I could remember where I put the stuffing 🙂

You said "stealing" and "thievery", in that thread - and back then they seemed quite strong from you - and I mentally pin-pointed your position as radical [since I don't think of copyright infringement as stealing or thievery].

Also, a month or so ago, copyright argument was rampant here [in my country and in Europe] and they passed a law against piracy that included detention even for private citizens [not just full fledged pirates].

That's why I told Alf [who's also European] you "claimed" etc. etc.
I wasn't implying that, yadda yadda, you endorsed jail time.
But I *felt* that you thought so, and related things as I felt them.

To paraphrase your post, my position was only as good as my assumptions. 🙂

I'm sure it is quite easy being civil with me. 🙂
I am a nice enough fellow, and I'm really easy to get along with.

[No, really...]

A putrid joke about toe lint came to my mind... 😀

Concurring with a law that says piracy is unlawful, or likening piracy to theivery for that matter is hardly a reason to think of me as a radical or as someone taking a radical stance on that subject. Simply put, any producer at all who invests time and money to produce something will stand firmly on the side of likening piracy to theivery. By that I mean someone who makes copies of copyrighted material for distribution in any form.
I felt as though you not only implied that I endorsed jail time for piracy, you actually quoted me as saying so, which is why I felt clarification was in order.

Toe lint or jam as we call it is the good stuff. It's kinda like foot resin. It's expensive though 😀

Here's my two-cents "blah blah blah" and one more blah for GP! (LOL)
Evan, that latest vid you have out, the one that you have as your avatar(I don't even know if I am using that word correctly)Can I get a Non-payment copy or you can call it "since there is no consideration from my side it can't legally binding -video.How about what wimpy used to say I'll gladly pay you tuesday for an hamburger today"

Just Kidding but how do you order videos to be honest I havent tbeen down to your website how much how do we transact? DO you take pesos?(LOL)

Thanks Ron

Since everyone's thrown in their two cents, let me put mine in so we can get a Big Mac - I can understand why people get upset over copyrighted material, but let's not judge people too hastily. What about the countless times a person puts up a pic or vid already on the server? Do we blast him for his mistake, or do we treat it as a mistake? Basically, it boils down to this: Why should we let a few words result in the end of something great?
