The Saddest Movie of All Time.

Grave Of The Fireflies. Be warned, you WILL cry.

Don't know if "sad" & "depressing" can be interchanged, but the Bjork film DANCER IN THE DARK - bleak !

Have to agree there Ice, Grave of the Fireflies is a tear jerker.

Old Yeller...

Trust me, if it can make ME cry, it can make ANYONE cry! 😛

I agree with Old Yellar, The Yearling...sad🙁 Now I want to see grave of the fireflies too

The saddest film I ever saw came out around 1984, it was called 'Testament'. About the aftermath of a nuclear holocaust. I could only see it once, I don't think I could sit through it again...

"Day of the Dolphin" I haven't seen it since I was little but it killed me then.

Star Wars Episode 1 - the Phantom Menace.

Oh wait, that was just Sad(tm)...

I'm with Prime, "Where the Red Fern Grows" is the ultimate in heartbreak for me. "Pay it Forward" got to me as well. I still say, the ultimate sad movie is "Bambi"

I'd have to give a vote to Grave of the Fireflies.Everyone I've talked to who has seen that movie will admit to having cried before the movie was done.

i cried at the end of...

titanic.....youll never get me to admit that to you in real life....grrr...once more you open the door....oh god. Im a sucker for celine dion.😱

tear jerkers....

I'm such a sap, so most girlie flicks make me cry. Here are the one's that made me go through a box of kleenex before I could finish my tub o' popcorn....

- My life (Michael Keaton and Nicole Kidman. He has a fatal disease, and you go through the whole movie just knowing that he's going to die. OMG...so sad.)

- Gorillas in the Mist. (don't laugh. I was a major animal lover back when this came out (I was about 15), and I lost my shit when the Gorillas got slaughtered by the poachers. Oddly enough I didn't really cry when Sigourney Weaver got killed at the end. lol.)

Mask (With Cher and Eric Stolz. Holy shit, the end of that movie gets me every time!)

Life as a House (with Kevin Kline...he dies too...I did some major boo-hooing.)

I'm sure there are more, but those are the ones that come to mind. If I think of any more I'll post them.

hate to say this but yeah, grave of the fireflies would be top of my list too.
i didn't cry though, lol.
jin roh is pretty sad also.

several choices

holocost (mini-series from the 1970's)
shindlers list
love story
saving private ryan (almost gave up ww2 reenacting due to this p.o.s.)
where the red fern groes.
armagedon (the end, when bruce willis dies).as a dad it really got to me.
in the musical 1776; the sceen where the messanger is singing about a battle, and the mother of a friend in looking for her son. (otherwise a great movie!)
i'll think of some others. but i stay away from shows that i know will make me cry
steve

Map of the Human Heart, came out 1995 or so. Immortal Beloved ranks up there, too..........story of Beethoven and the creation of the 9th. symphony

Just thought of another one

- The Color Purple. (At the end when the two sisters get reunited I always cry.)

I understand why you don't like the tear jerkers, Steve. Most guys don't. I, on the other hand, not only like the tear jerkers, I actually seek them out sometimes. I find a good cry to be cathartic. Might be a girl thing. I know my husband thinks I'm crazy for liking sad movies. lol. 🙂

i've seen Grave of the fire flies, and i have to admit, it is a tear jerker. Here's one that nobies mentioned, and it's not a very well known film, but i suggest you look it up.

"The Mighty"
Great movie, about two boys, one mentally challanged, one physically challanged, who bond and become the best of friends. James gandolfini and (i can't remember if it's Heather locklier, or some one else) along with Gillian Andersan and Meat Loaf also play role's in this movie. Anyway, rent it, very much so worth it.

Yes, I've seen my lifetime's share of movies, and I second this one. I didn't cry during its showing (I was watching it alone, so it wasn't a macho thing), but it had a very strong emotional impact on me nonetheless.

Definitely think it should be a part of the American public school ciriculum.

I cry at alot of the sad girlie flicks, man I can go with a whole box of tissues,

Steel Magnolias made me cry

This one was a TV movie but I always cry my eyes out..

Brians Song

Schindlers List - has a personal meaning to me as I was named after my great aunt lost in the Holocust.

There are so many...

The saddest movie of all time...

I gotta go with CokeCan on The Phantom Menace, and runner up to Attack of the Clones. I was really sad when I left the theatre for both movies. 😀

But seriously, folks... the one movie that gets me every time is "Field of Dreams"

When Ray asks "Hey, Dad.. Wanna have a catch?" I lose it.

That and E.T.

Oh, and "The Family Man" Ithink that was the name of it... Nic Cage and Tea Leoni? REALLY sad

"Titanic" would get my number one vote, simply because when I had gone to the theater to see it, I cried during the last hour of the film, I cried leaving the theater, I cried all the way to the video rental place where I rented several wrestling tapes to attempt to take my mind OFF the movie and my sadness, cried all during the wrestling tapes, cried myself to sleep, and woke up crying the next morning. Gawd I'm such a softy. I cry at nearly every Disney movie, too (especially the animated ones...can't they make ONE happy movie from start to finish with no tearful goodbyes or deaths?!)!

Honorary mention would go to "Stone Fox". I think I went through an entire box of kleenex on that one.
