The Saddest Movies of All Time.

I don't know if "Murder in the First" is sad or just depressing.

Though the movie as a whole wasn't particularly sad, my all-time watershed moment is in "Terms of Endearment" when Debra Winger is saying goodbye to her sons.. *sniff* .. it's SOOO unfair!!

In the same vein as Old Yeller, "Charlotte's Web"

I'm surprised no one has mentioned "The Joy Luck Club".

oh, wait, that's right; unless you identify with Chinese culture, or are Chinese yourself, you won't get it.

let's just say I don't know a single Chinese woman who can sit through that film without breaking down in sobs by the end.

there was one flick with Keanu Reeves where he falls in love with a dying woman, but I don't remember the name. yea, yea, I know, it's Keanu Reeves, but imagine yourself in this scenario.

as a kid, Charlotte's Web got me. can't recall any recently, though.

This to me is a no-brainer, the saddest movie of all time is obviously BRIAN SONG! Chicago Bears star Brain Piccolo (sp) dying of cancer, that lovely, heart tugging music, great acting, football, the total package; enough to melt the heart of even the most hardened teamster. :cry1:

The first movie I think of is "My Girl"!! Gawd, that thing turned me into a pile of bodily fluid.

Also, for the really cheesy girl flicks, "Beaches" always gets me.

But if I really want a GOOD CRY, I watch"Sunday in the Park With George".Not because it's sad, but because it's just so beautiful and full of meaning. Mwah!

I sob my big, girlie heart out at anything that's sad because of animals.
The Yearling (I wanted to knock that miserable, po-faced, sour-arsed bitch of a mother out, long before she shot Flag.)

Old Yeller (Would I have the courage to do a friend's duty?)

Where The Red Fearn Grows (Animals can be so bloody noble! :cry1: Also the foot licking scene intrigued the 8 year old me, somewhat. A bit gross now I'll admit. LOL)

And on a different genre......

Armagheddon (I know, I bloody know!)

Ah Miyazaki, such a genius he is. Yes, Grave of the Fireflies is very sad. I can name lots of other sad things, but unfortunatly they aren't movies 😛

Re: Saddest movie

One Hour Photo.

Without a doubt.

Cheers.😀

OMG my Girl, I forgot about that one....oh my I cry everytime I see it...!

I cried during Titanic also

but I am a girl that can cry at a sad little house on the prarie episode!!

I saw "Titantic", didn't cry.
In fact, now whenever I think of "Titantic", I laugh my ass off after what Venray told me when he saw it in the theater.
:jester: :jester: :jester: :jester: :jester:

Drew

oh, but as far as sad movies, "The Cure", at the end almost destoyed me.:cry1: :cry1: :cry1:

Shhh! Don't wanna blow my "sensitive guy" cover do ya!

🙄

Sad movies? One word..Ishtar...doesnt get much sadder than that one...

ALRIGHT - I went and rented Grave Of The Ding Dang Fireflies. We'll just SEE how sad this thing is.

But I rented Just Married as a possible antidote, just in case.

Sad Features

Okay, I've never seen Grave of the Fireflys but ahead are some that get to me:
Twilight of the Cockroaches--Another bummer Japanese anime.
Silent Running--Bruce Dern and three robots on a space station.
A Night To Remember--Okay, I've never seen Titanic, but this earlier film about the tragedy was enough for me.
Brian's Song--Gotta concur with those who've already mentioned it, even though it's been decades since I last saw it.
The Voyage of the Yes--Another I haven't seen in ages, but I remember it was kinda down.
Bless the Beasts and the Children--Yet another that I remember from a long time ago as upsetting. Dunno if it would still have the same impact.
Der Todesking(a.k.a.-The Death King)--Ultra grim flick from the same sick genius who directed Schramm and Necromantik.
Bum Fights--This probably ranks as my current pick for most depressing film. If you haven't seen it, and have any soul left in you whatsoever, don't. It'll make you fairly certain that we, as a culture, have hit the proverbial skids...

:grouphug:

Am I the only one here who got choked up watching "Killer Klowns from Outer Space"?

Was it autobiographical, Drew? :blaugh:
Cheers.😛

Before I say anything, where did you all, well, many of you, decide that crying during a sad movie is strictly a female trait? Come on! Emotions are emotions, gender notwithstanding. So called "Real" men cry, and there is absolutely nothing wrong in that. Holding back strong emotions just isn't good for you, like shaking up a bottle of Coke, my mom used to say. Now, on to the main theme of the thread. Movies that have made me cry are, in no particular order:

Going my way, when the older priest was reunited with his mother. (I'm getting bleary-eyed just typing it.) Lost it totally.

Tearms of Endearment. To this day, I refuse to watch that movie. My Mom died very much the same way.

Cast Away. Didn't start crying till the latter part, when Tom Hanks found out Hellen Hunt had re-married. After that, I had a hard time watching the rest through my tears.

Brian's Song.

I haven't seen Grave of the Fireflys, or Where the Red Fern Grows, but I will most likely look for them. Oh, yes. I also cried during Banbi, Dumbo, and Old Yeller.

So, why would anyone watch tear-jerkers who doesn't want to cry?

Go on, guys. Let it out! You'll feel better.

Everybody's gotta get into the act!

Drew

I also kinda got misty-eyed at "Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers"
