The Say Anything You Want To Thread

Not all that much. Just keep on top of cleaning the cage, food and water, and some personal interaction makes them good pets.

I have a feeling a pet parrots and pet cats don't get along in the same household. 😀

I've always wanted an Amazon Gray--is that considered a parrot? 😀

Yes Aura, very much so. They are considered the leaders of the talking hookbills and are only rivaled by Minah birds and a few Yellow Headed Amazons. The Gray's are wonderful mimics whether you get the standard African Gray (eurythicus eurythicus) or the Timnah Gray (eurythicus tymnah). The also live for 50 years of more with proper care.

They can get along. I have a friend who's cat goes undercover when he lets his bird out of the cage. The parrots warning screech (very loud) and the can opener on front of it's face are a great deterent against cats.

Impressive, K, thank you for the information--although it made me want the "unattainable" that much more! :cry1: Even with good defenses, I would fear for the well-being of the poor thing against my cussed menagerie of 4 dogs and 2 cats. 🙁 And-- grays are quite expensive, aren't they..? The last one I wept over was in the $1500 range, I think.

50 years and a good talker, huh? Boy, wouldn't that be quite the re-marrying deterrent if an ex decided to try and keep it after the festivities..."Mistress Aura's house! Get out! Mistress Aura's house! Get out!" 😀

I guess the cost of the bird would be regional. Around here they are about 1000 bucks, plus a good California Cage to acommadate their size would be about 600 bucks.

It depends upon the bird, your lifestyle, and where you live. Given good care a cockatiel has been known to be a wonderful companion bird and can live over 25 years and are also capable of limited speech.

Bugman's old computer gave up the ghost so he won't be back until he buys a new one. But he will be back!

I hope that a blizzard fulfills Natural Tickler's wishes, burying Chicago in three feet of snow at -20 F. 😛
