Yes I agree. Especially in some sense cause this is what trolls want. They want less responsible people that report flaming, spamming or obnoxious posts in general and they desire more chaos. When good people leave cause of trolls it ironically helps their cause. 🙁

It is a problem though I have to spend more time in chat dealing with it. 🙁

I just wish there were more members who will report derailments and obvious flaming posts to mods. And I kinda wish there were maybe a few more mods so there's a better chance for a mod to be online.

Exactly what my post was in the Troll Thread. I dont subscribe to the "Well trolls are just part of the net" theory and you just have to deal with it. :sowrong: This is why all forums have moderators to deal with problems like these. However they need input especially in a forum like ours that has almost 100,000 members. Thats a lot of posts everyday. A lot of potential for disagreements.

That's what I said as well. Mods are not superhuman. You can't expect them to automatically know when trouble is brewing. Heck, they have lives too so they can't be on here 24/7. It's up to us as members to report trouble when we see it. Jeff may have started this forum, but it's our community and if we want to keep it "flame-free", we need to work to keep it that way.
 
I have reported problems posts,only to come back a few days later,and said post is still there. WTF?

I run into the same thing in the chat. No one tells me Person A is constantly pming them and calling them names and then get mad when nothing is done about it. I tell them well if its done all through pms there is way a mod will ever see it. LOL Even if done in the main room we cant all be in ther all time. There are only like 5 or 6 chat mods for the whole forum. 🙂

Mods get literally hundreds of reports. Myr told me once he gets 2000 emails every day he has to go through plus probably about a hundred or so pms every day. Thats a lot to sort through. I think perhaps they need more mods.

I think we need more mods. There are times where I don't see any mods online at all. I think if there were one or two more mods, maybe the odds of a mod being on would increase and they'd be on when someone reports a problem. :shrug:

Usually when I use the report thread icon,something gets done real quick.Like when i use it for spam/adverts. But usually when I see flame posts,or hijacking of threads.sometimes nothing gets done.

More mods would certainly help. They seem reluctant to appoint more though. Not sure why. :shrug:

Spam is easier to deal with. Its obvious what it is and you just delete it.

Flames are hijackings are more complicated. Require more interaction with the parties involved.

That is true. I think the mods try to save a thread if possible by deleting the inflammatory posts, but if it's been derailed so horribly they'll either lock it or delete altogether.

Its easier to deal with a flame war or pre-flame war preemptively. 😀 I know in the chat room if I let things go to long, there gets to be too many parties involved and its a lot harder to fix the problem. Flame wars tend to suck more and more parties into them and then there are more and more people you have to deal with. 🙂

And that's why it's important for people to not respond and just report it. Responding in any way only adds fuel to the fire.
