All too often a train scheduled to leave Penn Station at a particular time is taken to the maintenance yard instead to be repaired because they discovered upon trying to start it up that it doesn't function.

How can an expensive, inefficient, unreliable operation have customers? A good question. The answer is the obvious one: On the Northeast Corridor (Boston to Washington), they have a government granted monopoly on long distance train service.
