Irony aside, I only envy you gentlemen your fortitude. Come Springtime, though, you will have it all over me, and be able to take the greenery for granted. We won't talk Summer. I'm anticipating $300 electric bills. I love the winters here, but I'd love to leave, long about April, for Boise or Saskatoon or Upstate Anywhere.

My place has a gaspack on the roof. It's a central unit that does not need electricity, except for the fans, to keep the place warm. The big difference, though, is that I almost never use the heat. I like fifty degrees ambient. That's shirtsleeve weather until I get out into a breeze.

I get the COLD thing. I cannot imagine any Western city building a steam infrastructure. I cannot really imagine the kind of cold that justifies a unique public utility. That's fascinating.

It's an economical way to handle mild cold weather. Lots of homes out here have heat strips. It's like installing a house-sized space heater. Those are not cheap to run.

Remember the ads for all-electric homes? They were supposed to be inherently cleaner. It was all a fraud to save developers the cost of installing gas lines.

I remember those adds. In the northeast,a lot of people use oil to heat their homes. It is cheaper than electric heating.

LOL Yea it got pretty nasty here. The funny part is the Emergency Broadcast System trying to come on to warn us but it was not working Nice to know we are safe in case of some real disasters. 😛

Yea that pretty much sums it up. They come on after the torrential downpour, wind and thunder to tell you about the torrential downpour, wind and thunder. Its so ineffectual and defective I suspect its government run 😛
