So yeah...I get a call this afternoon from my boss. According to him, I'm not doing what he wants, and therefore felt "it is time for the ralationship between me and Vonage to end", as he so eloquently put it.

FUCK YOU!!

I did every goddamned thing and more that he asked of me, and did the best I could. The reality? The market for Vonage is rather shitty here in Arlington, and very few of the other stores in Texas were faring any better.

The asshat constantly talked about showing initiative, speaking to other buisnessses and checking out places around the mall for potential customers. Yet when I or anyone else said "Ok, let's do it!", he'd say "We'll do it next week" or "another day.". What the fuck! You want to make sales and make good commission, but don't want to do it NOW? Hell, I spent the better part of my day Tuesday roaming the mall and going into various stores, talking to mall employees and such...WHICH IS AGAINST MALL POLICY, I MUST ADD! But, nevertheless, I did it and so did everyone else present. I did the best I could. The two biggest issues with setting up customers was this: A) They were locked in a contract or had a bundled DSL/phone service with AT&T, and would have to pay alot of money to switch over OR B) They didn't have broadband internet and either didn't want it or couldn't get it. Another issue was that nearly everyone I had ever spoken to thought we were a cellular service, or provided our own high speed connection. That made sales even more difficult.

To make things better, one of the assistant managers who has been there with me since Day 1 also got the axe today, via phone call, and was surprised when I told him the same had happened to me. THE DUDE IS FURIOUS! He's already spoken to the higher ups in our chain of command, and has already said told whoever he has been able to contact what has been going on, and that shit is gonna hit the fan. He's also going to do some mudslinging against Vonage and the company that hired us, to which I support him fully.

To make things more exciting, let's get deeper into this. Out of the whole team, the assistant manager who was fired and myself were the only caucasians at that store. Everyone else was either black or Hispanic, and I am very curious to see if the other assistant manager (who is an Hispanic female), and one of the other sales reps (who is also an Hispanic female) who had been there nealry as long as I have, had the same sales record, had also been fired. Before anyone gets uppity, let me make one thing clear: I am not racist. All people of all colors, creed, gender and orientation are as euqally flawed as us. However, I cannot help but wonder if the manager had racial motivations in firing the only two white guys in the team, while everyone else keeps their job. If I find out that is the case, I will see if there is grounds for legal action, and will respond accordingly.

Bottom line? If you are thinking of going for Vonage, don't. If you have Vonage, tell those fuckers good-bye. Check out some of the other VOiP services, like www.voip.com and see the better benefits of paying less for the same service.

GOODBYE VONAGE! GOODBYE RETAIL BUISNESS DEVELOPMENT! You all can line up so you can kiss my fat, fuzzy ass!

I always thought it was weird that someone would get DSL from comcast or verizon and then instead of using comcast or verizon for their phone they get another company and pay another bill. Can you collect?

not 100% sure what you mean. in most cases, bundled deals can lead to the Hidden Charge Woes, which was something Vonage (and other VOiP providers) are trying to help people avoid. however, I have seen and heard for myself the problems with Vonage, and therefore recommend other VOiP services.

thanx, kilit. i keep telling myself that everyday. truth be told, i have some options that i have already looked into, so we shall see what happens.

Forgive all my corniness here but seriously I have known many people who had a shitty day, week, month, year, etc and somehow grew and develop from it.
I know you are in a bad funk right now, but you can end up ok. Hang in there babe.

BTW, I read in some article years ago that 90% of job losses were political as oppose to the person not doing a good job. Hopefully your next work environment will bless you with better management. Much love and wishes for a new door opening soon.
 
Yea, I've been working in retail for about 3 months now, and it sucks. I mean, it's not particularly hard work, but the customers are a pain in the ass sometimes. Ah well, experience is experience.

yeah...totally sucks, eh? i think i need to go back to either food service, or good ol manual labor.

The first day I met him, I ask him what he does when he's outside of the store, his response was 'read comic books, watch geek movies, date utterly innappropriate women, and drink my life away.'

We get along smashingly.

That being said, you got canned, so you can go file for unemployment while looking for something else. Head up, brother.

truer words were never spoken. i am, however, afraid that since i already tried to file for unemployment, then got this job shortly after, if it will be easy to do it again.
 
Self Employed

I'm putting the finishing touches on my degree very shortly, and I seriously considering beginning a freelance operation in graphic design. cloud, your situation is very common nowadays. The current job that I have is an example, but rather than fire any deadweight, they have to hang on to people since they can't hardly hire anybody.

Advantages:

  • I own the business
  • No lazy co-workers
  • No office politics
  • Flexible hours
  • Creative Freedom

Yet, with the perks, there are the hassles:

  • Slow beginning
  • Searching for clients
  • Located in a rural area
  • Work second job to keep ahead of finances

...but I believe it will be worth the effort.

Hang in there, cloud. The sun will shine through.

Did he actually say those words in that order to you? It's time for the relationship between you and Vonage to end? If so I sincerely, seriously hope you do a shit upon the roof of his car, because this man is clearly an odious rat of the highest order. Fuck the whole unethical treatment and racial bias, that phrase makes him poo-worthy. Do it. DO it now, for the good of mankind.

Also fuck them, get a job at AT&T and run the fuckers out of town.
 
So sorry it happened brother. Probably for the best though . I would definitely see about looking into the racial bias claim and seeing if you can do something about it.

No worries in the meanwhile, you are a smart and capable person who should have no troubles finding a better job.

But yes, if you want…..I can obliterate that particular outlet into kingdom come and STILL make it look like an electrical accident….if you want me to of course.
