The time in your life when you realized you wern't a child anymore

The first time I really realized I had to be an adult, I was around 12. It was my dad's last deployment. Before he turned around and walked on the carrier, he hugged me and said it was time for me to "step up and help the family." I didn't know what he meant until I turned around and my mom was crying. It was the first time I ever saw her cry. I suddenly knew what my father meant. I picked up my little brother, grabbed my mom's hand, and walked them back to the car.

I always had to help out, but this time was different. I had to do the more demanding chores, take care of my brother when my mom was at work, fix the cars, etc. It wasn't a bad thing, because families work together.

I got many reminders after that. I love my family, and would do anything for them. I'm thankful for all of my experiences. Because it really is true, I wouldn't be where I am now without them.

For me I fist felt like an adult when I was 12, but I feel that my life has had times where I felt more like a child, and other times more like an old man. To me life is the fluctuation between young and old are varying in times and intensities. If that makes any sense at all🙂

Well I've felt like adult hood hit early for me....

I think the final real transition is coming...soon....oy. :microsmiley:

When I gave my pledge upon enlisting in the US Air Force.

They made us swear by the Crown at Pirbright and I'm still the biggest kid I know 😀

In other words I have yet to have one of those moments. I'm looking forward to it though. Should be fun.

This is a tough thread for me to answer. While I am very much still a kid at heart, the events of my past forced me to grow up rather quickly. I was about 7.

In another light I kinda feel like I'm transitioning into a different grow up phase of my life.

In order to effectively answer this question I'd have to ask myself "when did I ever feel like a child during my childhood?" I've stood on milk crates to cook for the family or do dishes because my mother just couldn't. I couldn't go to bed early like most kids because me and my sisters were on shift to help my mother get ready for work. I had the phone next to me when my mother would make the wake up call for us to prepare for school because her shift ended at 7am and we needed to be at school by 7:30.

So I'll just discuss some defining moments:

When I got my paper route at age 14-it meant I didn't have to rely on my father's money or his terms for getting a lousy allowance.

Age 21 when I was at the BMV getting my drivers licence. I decided to call the clinic where I dropped off my pregnancy test because I just KNEW it was negative. Uh.....no it wasn't! If it weren't for my niece being there I don't know if I would've remembered how to get home that day.

When my first child was born I knew I'd be the one solely responsible for his care even though me and the "donor" split 18 months later.

For me, I guess, it was the first time that I decided that I needed a haircut and went to the barber by myself.

Victories of my maturity are few and far between, at best.:happyhop:

Probably the day I joined the workforce around 17. Though honestly, I'm still a big kid at heart. I doubt that will ever change.
