The Useless Fact Thread:

The expression "to blow smoke up someones a**" has its origins in actual medical practices of the 18th century in Europe.

At the time, smoke enemas were commonly used to treat victims of drowning. Kits for the procedure were frequently found hanging from public places near waterways.

The practice was apparently passed along to Europeans by Native Americans. Kind of makes me wonder if it was a joke.
