This website says we have a disease

I apologise that my username sucks. My name isn't Macky, but when I joined this group I was a cowardly lurker. Forgive me, friends.

By the way, if you want to change your name PM me with the name that you want 🙂

I almost certainly haven't thought this through enough, but what do you guys think about the concept that sex originated as a form of trading genetic diversities to survive, and that the so-called "diseases" of homosexuality, tickling fetishism and the rest of it keep surviving across thousands of generations?

Interchange of genetic material creates greater diversity within a species, which in turn increases survivability since a single threat becomes less likely to kill off the entire species. There is nothing to think about it, that part is simply fact. As for the survival of so-called "diseases", it is highly questionable and impossible to prove whether homosexuality and fetishes are a condition of the mind born of genetic programming or different experiences as a young child. I remember tickling other kids in preschool a lot, so that could have been the source of my fetish. It also could have been the early manifestation. I cannot say. And even if I knew, it would not be a valid argument to support either opinion, since using it as such would be committing the "anecdotal" logical fallacy. (http://yourlogicalfallacyis.com/anecdotal)
Since we do not truly know and cannot prove, the second part cannot be truly answered, but for the purpose of debate I will assume it is genetic, and that we are born with it.
If it is so, one must ask how "diseases" that lower the desire for "vanilla" sexual intercourse or make it all-together undesirable have propagated. One thing that comes to my mind is that people sometimes had sex because they were expected, even forced, to yield progeny. Homosexuality was not always as accepted as today, a long time ago the person would have been killed for sure. Such a person might even sleep with a woman and have a child with her to better hide himself. As for the fetish, it doesn't truly make vanilla sex undesirable, however depending on the severity of ones fetish, a person might not be turned on by vanilla sex, however that is an obstacle easily overcome, so there is nothing that truly blocks the fetish from propagating.

That website looks like somewhere that would provide a 'homosexuality diagnosis' to cure teh ghey; In other words, a load of shit. I don't care if it's a goddamn syndrome, everyone reading page 3 of The Sun is a breast fetishist by that kind of logic.

These are the same people that 100yrs ago would've had people the likes of Einstein, FDR, Freud, Galileo, Edison and other cultural pioneers commited, or labeled "sub-standard" or "mentally inept" because their wild imaginations, or vices are contradictory to socially acceptable human developement. Thats a longwinded way of saying that this website has the integrity, and discernment of a barn rat. But then again life is an illness isn't it? :upsidedow

A tickling fetish is a disease?! Who writes this nonsense the westboro Baptist Church?!

That website looks auto-generated. Yes, a live person typed in that word that I can't even pronounce, and typed the so-called symptoms, but obviously not with a whole lot of thought. They clearly just took every fancy term they could find and plugged it in. Most of what's on that page is generic and, again, auto-generated.

oh yeah? Well, This website says that we're reducing the spread of STDs. ((Well, it specifically lists a portion of us, but I'm sure it could apply to most of us. It also tells us why we may like some other things in life))

The Ultimate Criterion For A Mental Illness Diagnosis

A mental illness diagnosis can only be made about if the quality of an individual's life is diminished. This is usually more a question of control rather than the activity itself.

Consider these 2 scenarios:

A) A man gets out of work, drives home, & has 2 beers with dinner.

B) A man gets out of work, goes to a bar and has 2 beers, & drives home typsy to dinner.

The activities are very similar but Scenario (B) is displaying Pathology. (A) is not. A diagnosis can never be made without considering the circumstances under which a behavior occurs.

Under these criteria, TMF behavior would never qualify as pathology unless its accompanied by a loss of control. Its simply a predilection.

The writers of the above-mentioned web-site, to their credit, do bring this out. Their ultimate goal, however, is to turn what's usually considered a symptom into a "condition" that warrants insurance coverage.

The problem is that a lot of their treatments are so draconian (Anti-Psychotic Medication, Chemical Castration--Yikes) that anyone considering them would qualify for a far more serious diagnosis than what they're recommending.

Now a days anything can be deemed as a disease for anything they dont have a logical explanation for and in the court system it can get people out of harms way of jail and into rehab instead

Pretty sure it's just the medical/scientific term for our fetish. Think you're misreading this a bit.

Like how a fear of spiders is arachnophobia. I wouldn't call that a disease either.

yep, it is some formal language used to describe a particular area of human behavior and there are terms for just about every aspect of human behavior. It provides a formal scientific framework for understanding and researching and learning more about this and every other aspect of human behavior. Just about every activity we humans engage in sounds artificial and even absurd when taken only in the context of objectifying formal language. Does it mean someone who enjoys tickling is sick? No more so than someone who enjoys fondling breasts. Or oral sex. Or holding hands in public.

I think the web site just describes a formal name given to behavior that involves tickling. Whether that behavior is a problem or not really requires a whole other level of detail about a person. There is little in life that is "all" or "every" for anything except that we are all born and every one of us will physically die. Everything between is open for debate.

Relax. There are no doubt some among our number who have issues connected with tickling and are in need of professional help but for the majority of us, we go about our lives pretty much like every other guy and girl in the world only we have the added spice tickling brings to our existence.

Actually every phobia is a disease, or rather a disorder. People don't want many things called a disease because there is a irrational misconception that having a disease somehow makes you a lesser person or wrong in some way.

Hope your alright and your getting the help and support you need to deal with this! I remember when i was told, was a few years ago. I was shocked at first but i learned to cope.
