Tickling Pregnant Belly

Okay, so for me, it's not going to happen until I'm married and have made her pregnant, but... how safe (mainly for the baby, but to some extent, the woman, too) and effective is it to tickle a pregnant woman, especially on the belly, assuming she's not off-limits to you in that regard?

I don't think, given the protective mechanisms in place in the female pregnant body, that a bit of light tickling of the belly is going to cause any damage...hard tickling, personally, would be off limits in that area during pregnancy...but that's just the neurotic Jewish mom in me...also, it might be enough to trigger labor in the later stages of pregnancy if a woman is tickled too hard anywhere, not just the belly...but hey, if the baby is overdue, then I believe at that point anything is helpful...

I'll let you know in a couple of years...😉

Beware

I used to tickle my Ex when she was preggo....it was such fun because she couldn't fight back much...but it was more of a light belly tickle. i think it actualy felt good to her. BUT I will warn you....if you attempt to tickle the feet of a preggo woman....if you grab the ankle too hard...theres a nerve on the back of the ankle (just above the heal) that can actually send her into premature preganancy.

I'm speaking very generally here....but the doctor mentioned this to us when warning us about massages. It's supposedely very serious.

Just food for thought!

Any overstimulation during pregnancy can cause premature labor. Laughing too hard, emotional stress, etc...

Any scientific studies to back up that nerve on the back of the ankle? I'm not buying it...I know my anatomy...and until I read a study, I don't feel there is any fact behind that...either your doctor is a quack, or a gullible quack, or he/she is messing with you...

Well....

Well....I guess we're lucky you weren't the doctor then...LOL.

This is what I was referring to....it's taken directly from a medical website for pregnant women. It refers to both the Sciatic Nerve and the Saphenous nerve when talking about pinching or massaging the ankles.....

"Do not do this massage if the sciatic nerve is inflamed, according to Stillerman. She also cautions that pregnant women should use extremely gentle pressure when they do tapotement; too much pressure could stimulate the saphenous nerve, which leads into the pelvic area, causing uterine contractions."

So...I guess you can believe what you want to believe. As for me...I'm sticking to the Doctor.

Can you site the actual URL? I'd like to do some research.

I'm not saying it doesn't pay to be careful...nor do I deny that any overstimulation of any kind can trigger premature labor...

But, as I said, I want to read/do more research before I buy this particular story. Not all websites are legitimate, and if I could be directed to it, and then do some more research, I could obtain a more informed opinion...always a good thing to be well informed.

I used to massage a workmate at the end of the day when she was pregnant, and I was not trying to tickle her, but as I did there was a spot behind each shoulder blade I had to avoid, because it made her break into giggles. To be safe, I simply rubbed her belly, particularly near the very end.

Bare.
