At any rate, despite any warnings by Myriads, I did actually read his post. It seems there are two threads in this forum kind of getting at the same thing...genetics vs. environment. And I happen to agree with you 100% on this topic, Myriads.
I've also done quite a bit of research on the topic, and my best conclusion is that our genetic makeup gives us the tendency to form attachments, while our environment tends to shape the object of the attachment. So in many ways, yes it is a crap shoot, once you've actually established that chemical overload during development.
And if it is truly a crap shoot, well... not to be too smug or anything...but on the whole list of the 1,001 fetishes I could've had, I sure rolled lucky on the craps table that night

Of all the fetishes out there, I can safely say that our's (speaking from a very non objective viewpoint, naturally) is one of the most fun there is.
