Okay, so 8 of the 16 spaces have been confirmed, and in order to get things rolling, I've started pitting people against each other.

Those of you who sent me a PM should have got one back by now, detailing which three TMF users you will be playing. These users can be played in any order, and it will be up to you to initiate contact with your opponent, and decide how and when you're going to play (be it on skype/msn/yahoo etc, or on the internet).

Once you've played these three games, you'll have a place from 1st to 4th in your group. This will determine who you play in the elimination round, where we'll find out who the TMF Chessmaster is!

The rules are as follows:

1. Normal chess rules/moves apply, cos you can't cheat at this game easily on the internet. 😛

2. Chess clocks should be set to one hour each.

3. Once a game has been played, both players need to PM me with the result of the game, so I can tally your scores with respect to everyone elses.

While some IM programs do have the ability to play chess games, I reccomend you all play on this site; http://www.chesshere.com/index.php
It's easy enough to sign up (took me all of 20 seconds), and you can easily find each other on there, by searching for active users. Just make sure you let your opponent know what your username is by PM!

Best of luck to all of you; let me know if I've missed anything important out of this post.

Oh yeah, and I'll be drawing up a league table to show the rest of the users how "well" we're all doing. 😛

EDIT: Oh yeah, you get 2 points for a win, 1 for a draw, and 0 for a loss.

Er wait, suggestion? 1st place and 1st place shouldn't be pitted against each other. That means 1 of the (likely) two best players is eliminated first round. The reverse for 4th and 4th. One of the (likely) weakest players gets to keep going. In most sports tournaments, the higher your rank in the preliminaries, the lower the rank of your first opponent. It's kind of like your "reward" for doing well, and ensures the best players only face-off later.

Think about it, that means some sneaky player (not ME, of course) could just take a dive in the round robin, so that when direct elimination starts, he's up against the other pool's 4th place.

Ok, my first match is down.....and it resulted in a draw. Kinda silly, because 'nemesis was kicking my ass. I just got lucky, is all. Ran out of moves, I think.

ha ha ha! i don't fully understand why it came to a draw since you were down to only your king and i still had several pieces. you couldn't move anywhere, to me, it should've been a win for me. lol. oh well.

If the opponent can't move, but isn't checked, it's a draw. 🙂 You have to be careful not to let that happen when you are about to check mate someone
