To anyone who has ever felt weird about their fetish

I wouldn't judge this too harshly. Over here, we have lots of stuff about how fun it is to go potty.
We usually put it in books rather than full-motion instructional videos, however...

I judge it simply because I do not prefer Japanese anything. There are some exceptions, but on the whole I don't like their stuff.

I played too much Mega Man when I was 9, watched too much Little Prince when I was 4, and had too many fantasies stemming from The Wild Swans to hate them. Animé and I go wayyyyyy back, even though I didn't realise it for quite a while.
They have to work on their tyrannical video game nomenclature, though.

Video games I don't mind, and even then it mostly depends upon the series. Anime, though, is something I've never really liked very much. *shrugs*

What bugs you about it? If it's the whole technophobic nature fetish thing... well... you try having The Bomb dropped on you sometime. 😛

I don't like the art style as a whole (it all looks the same to me), I don't like the "weeaboo" fan-nation, and I don't like the fact that each show at its core is essentially about one (or a combination) of four things: giant robots, dendraphilia, weird cultural comedy that no one from any other nation could ever hope to find funny unless they were to fully immerse themselves in the Japanese culture and thereby lose their own sense of patriotic identity, and mother issues.

There are Japanese who are equally vocal about the Westernisation of their culture. But that's the world we live in. In both countries, there are kids bored with enough with their culture that they wish they were in another. East and West... that's as far apart as you can get.
No one owns a culture nowadays... it's fluid and you can't stop its propagation anymore.

I don't doubt it. Segregation of some things isn't always such a bad idea.

This is why I hate kids. They're never happy. "I want to go to Japan. I want a car. I want to die with dignity and not in some hole, starving. I want to live without ever experiencing a disfiguring accident." Always crying.

Not nearly far enough for me.

I disagree, there. Culture is still something owned by the citizens of a given nation. Just because you play Halo on your friend's XBox doesn't mean it suddenly becomes your XBox.

That's how wars begin.

The grass is always greener until the day you die. Are you necessarily happy with your environment?

Pfff... you'll have to blow up the Internet then.

I'm wary of cultural appropriation too, but there just aren't many voices on either side denouncing the exchange. The Japanese who take offense that people half a world away draw girls with big eyes and little mouths just aren't getting any airtime. At all. And I can't bring myself to become indignant on their behalf.

Indeed, and I’m pretty confident that America can win against Japan a second time.

The grass is always greener until the day you die. Are you necessarily happy with your environment?

Yes, for true happiness comes from within oneself--not from an island in the Pacific. I could spend the rest of my life searching for happiness and never find it. If I’m not happy right now, I’ll never be happy.

Pfff... you'll have to blow up the Internet then.

At least on the internet, I will only see the influences of anime if I decide to type such an address into my URL bar. IRL, though, people wearing ridiculous anime dragon shirts are everywhere. I can’t ignore them, because they’re everywhere.

I’m indignant on my own behalf. I don’t like weeaboos because I just don’t like them. I will not eat green eggs and ham, and I will not watch anime, Sam I Am.

I think maybe our different positions come from our backgrounds...
I'm very proud of Canada's refusal to impose a common material culture upon its citizens; the idea that you can wear kippahs and robes and hijabs and not be looked down upon as an uppity immigrant or a wannabe. Our culture is one of ideas--foremost among which is that you're a thinking, sovereign person who can be whatever you want to be as long as it doesn't hurt anyone else. Catgirls don't hurt me. Women in hijabs don't hurt me.

But maybe that's just me.

Did someone say 'weeaboo'?

'Cause I think I just heard someone say 'weeaboo'...

They hurt me. They hurt me by imposing their filth upon MY cable channels and OUR younger generation. I'm looking at YOU, Cartoon Network.

I mean, only in a time such as ours can GI Joe, a REAL AMERICAN HERO, be transformed into JAPANESE anime. It defies all logic.

But maybe that's just me.

I'm sure lots of Canuckleheads agree with you.

'Cause I think I just heard someone say 'weeaboo'...

WEE-A-BOO! WEE-A-BOO!

Lemme ask you... if this were 1964, would you be as offended by the boys who wear moptops and the girls who follow Twiggy's every fashion twitch? If not, why?

I draw the line at giggling dingleberries.

I fail to see what this hypothetical has to do with my dislike/loathing of Japanimation.

Agree to disagree on what, the fact that I hate Japanimation and all that goes with it? I'm afraid you've lost me.

furry meets pedophelia? I'm confused...
But I thnk that somewhere out there, there may be people speaking this way about our respective fetish(es) so it really isn't our place to judge.

It's a big, crazy world of divergent human tastes out there. As long as someone's personal sexual preferences aren't hurting someone else, I really don't care what get's their ya' ya's poppin'.

Ahhhhh.. Noupe.. I still feel a bit weird about my fetish. But I do feel an eensie bit better knowing I'm not that sick :3
