12 reasons why gay people should not be allowed to get married

1. Homosexuality is not natural, much like eyeglasses, polyester, and birth control.

2. Heterosexual marriages are valid because they produce children. Infertile couples and old people can't legally get married because the world needs more children.

3. Obviously, gay parents will raise gay children, since straight parents only raise straight children.

4. Straight marriage will be less meaningful if Gay marriage is allowed, since Britney Spears' 55-hour just-for-fun marriage was meaningful.

5. Heterosexual marriage has been around a long time and hasn't changed at all; women are property, blacks can't marry whites, and divorce is illegal.

6. Gay marriage should be decided by people, not the courts, because the majority-elected legislatures, not courts, have historically protected the rights of the minorities.

7. Gay marriage is not supported by religion. In a theocracy like ours, the values of one religion are imposed on the entire country. That's why we have only one religion in America.

8. Gay marriage will encourage people to be gay, in the same way that hanging around tall people will make you tall.

9. Legalizing gay marriage will open the door to all kinds of crazy behavior. People may even wish to marry their pets because a dog has legal standing and can sign a marriage contract.

10. Children can never succeed without a male and a female role model at home. That's why single parents are forbidden to raise children.

11. Gay marriage will change the foundation of society. Heterosexual marriage has been around for a long time, and we could never adapt to new social norms because we haven't adapted to things like cars or a longer lifespan.

12. Civil unions, providing most of the same benefits as marriage with a different name are better, because a "separate but equal" institution is always constitutional. Separate schools for African-Americans worked just as well as separate marriages for gays and lesbians will.

Well, it does make sense. I mean, one of the primary reasons for existing is to reproduce in order to keep life going. I don't really have a problem with it or anything, but still, there's no denying that it changes the original intent of how life was meant to be.

But of course, old people can't reproduce either, so I don't guess it matters too much.😛

I like this thread...but I don't want to have molten lead flung in my eyes so I won't comment.

too late!!!

I feel tempted to play Devil's Advocate here, purely for the mental exercise it would bring.

See Mairead? It's posts liek this that are the reason you're everyone's muse on these forums. 😉

Some people are a muse unto themselves, so I wouldn't know about that. 😛

It's absolutely official...... you ARE the best.

This point doesn't relate to marriage, though, just sexuality. A gay couple that marries is no more or less likely to reproduce with each other than a gay couple that lives together. And so much the better, then, if the ones genetically predisposed to want to reproduce reproduce!

With more people alive in the world than have ever lived at one time, EVER, and more people born every second, we have no shortage of reproducing. Food is even more vital to life, and yet the people involved in the production of it are way in the minority. I think we're in more danger of running out of food than babies.

When humanity becomes extinct, there's very little chance homosexuality will have had any part in it.

Straight parents can raise gay children as some psychologist have found that a person's sexual orientation can stem from breast feeding and the mother's bond with their child.

What is natural/normal anyway these days??Times are changing fast. And so are social norms.

The number of lone parent families is actually on the rise.

Sorry if I'm nitpicking (sp?)but my best mate is gay and has too much grief off his parents for it and I'm just really protective over him thats all
(and in case you're wondering I'm straight)

I actually argued with a PA State Representative who was backing a ban on gay adoptions in the state about how these kids need families and what is more important--having them have parents who love them and can support them emotionally and financially or having the parents be straight? I don't think it matters. I told her that putting a kid with a gay couple won't make the kid gay--and in fact, my straight parents didn't make me straight...and that she could ask my father, who put the event she spoke at together, all about it...

And she had no comment.

Times are changing, Tickle Fan...unfortunately, your country has come a lot farther than mine...here's hoping better days ahead for ALL people come sooner rather than later...

ok, peep this. you know how dads are so cool and let you do cool stuff mom's don't let you? can you imagine 2 dads? that would be so awesome.

i'll bet, when, yes WHEN they allow gay marriages, they will be the best, most long lasting marriages ever. because they fought so hard for it, through thick and thin. nowadays, you can go partying one night, get drunker than hell and come back the next morning with a pregnant wife and a large tatoo of her drunk assed face on your chest. alotta straight people have lost sight the meaning of marriage.

I just wanna say... I love this board. You guys really make a guy feel welcome. Thanks 🙂

anything for you, spud. 😀

I have to say, it would have been even funnier if someone had made a list like this and actually meant it. Any takers? I love a good laugh.

N'yeh. Well... I've gotta disagree with you. The institution of gay marriage might come, but I doubt it'll come to America in completion for many, many decades yet. As in I doubt we'll see it before a universal AIDS vaccine.

The fact is that since those in religous power in America have declared gays a SCOURAGE... we're screwed. Anyone who believes in gay marriage, or even basic protections can be expected to be condemded whenever we have the UNREMITTING GAUL to attempt to debate, or even dialogue with those who have such holy fire in their eyes.

I just deleted a whole long section when I realized all I was doing was flaming. I don't want to flame, so I'll just tactfully sum up:

1: Arguments against gay marriage are inevitably grounded in religion.
2: As such, laws that block rights are inherently religious in nature, no matter how secular their wording or application
3: The bible DOES condemn homosexuality, but it also condemns several things many christians pay no heed to, and advocate things that would drain your blood if done in modern day times (which actually, many things are)
4: As an atheist, I feel it necessary to support those who seek to use the law to codify their particular reading of their religion.

Sadly, little can be done for those in Nebraska http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/07/14/AR2006071400879.html

and other states where the constitution has already been amended, since it is by definition the last word of law.

The only option for you who are in these areas is to LIVE. Be monogamous, be role models for the community. Run for offices of all stripes, and teach the children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren of those who draft these psedou-holy laws that you deserve the respect and rights of their own parents.

If the gay community and their supporters all do this, we shall win.

::Cough:: I seem to have gotten on my high horse there. I'll say nothing more on the thread, unless my name is severely besmirched. If anyone wants to PM me and debate me on anything I've said or any religous topic feel free to. It's a topic that enflames my passion.

So then as an athiest, I assume that you don't use United States Currency, since the phrase"In God We Trust" is stamped on it.

My two cents' worth:

For whatever it's worth, I'm a pretty typical hetero male, my ticklephile-ishness notwithstanding. I just hate to see people get persecuted for something which they were born with and which ultimately harms no one.

Being unable to legally marry a partner means that you're always considered "single" for financial and legal purposes. For instance, if your partner takes sick, his or her family can prevent you from visiting him or her in the hospital, hospice, nursing home, etc. and you have no recourse.

Mainstream America appears to have much, much growing up to do with respect to otherwise healthy sexual orientations, sub-orientations and patterns of relationships. For the most part, mainstream music, TV and movies are, whether intended that way or not, are commercials for the heterosexual nuclear-family lifestyle or some variant thereof. If sex is discussed at all in the mainstream media, it's usually with an eye toward titillation rather than factual information or, heaven forefend, pleasure. (Much porn, especially the over-the-counter kind is patently anti-pleasure. It's message is "Take a good look at what you cannot have").

We ticklephiles are fortunate to have here a decent and pretty much sleaze-free little sanctuary here on the web (props to the moderators!). It could all disappear tomorrow if the wrong bill gets passed, if the attorney general decides its time to "protect children", or if some candidate decides that going after certain people and their media is good for getting votes.

My three cents..

Mainstream America still remembers what marriage is and supposed to be.
