UFO,s?

I am officially hijacking this thread in the name of SCIENCE!

I might never openly state that I "believe in" alien visitations, etc., I see no reason to deny them, iether. I mean, what if they are aliens after all?

Steven Hawking once said something to the effect of; "I would never bet agianst the existance of time travel; because for all I kow, the person I'm betting against could be a time traveller who came back here to make such a bet."
I figure aliens might fit under the same category.

Sure:lol I believe in aliens! Where the hell do you think politicians come from???

While I find the thought entertaining, I don't put a lot of faith in the idea of extraterrestrial visitors in the real world.

My reasoning comes from an admittedly loose and remedial understanding of the science and math behind it, but places in the universe capable of supporting life are a) few, and b) Incredibly far between. The universe is huge. For all we know, our closest "neighbors" could be two or three spiral arms away. Much less, that doesn't even guarantee highly evolved life. For all we know, that hypothetical life-bearing planet we're thinking up could be home to little more than pond scum, bacteria, and amoebas.

There are other things that kinda kill the thought of visitors for me. Trans-luminal space travel, while theoretically possible, would require energy levels that are virtually impossible. And it does a real good job of screwing up causality.

There are 42 countries with a combined 3000+ satellites orbiting the earth alone. You know what a craft would need to slip by that many eyes in the sky? That's right. A miracle. And you know where miracles come from? You bet your ass you do.

So surely no one can assert that they can see what's happening billions of light years away, yet let E.T slide right under their nose, huh?

This is what I have been waiting for, not philosphy,s, ideology, theory,s and calculations. I,m not saying that they are not important but you can calculate that an elephant can hang off a cliff with it,s tail tied to a daisy. I was waiting for someone to say, yes, I have seen something of that nature as well. I believe in God myself and I also believe in what you have stated about the possible existance of other forms of life. Science and governments have not been forthcoming with information they possess on this subject. It,s either classified as top secret or else we are told that we would be too traumatized to be able to handle it. We still haven,t found out who asassinated JFK with any degree of certainty. Even if you or I had captured these events on video or DVD there would be an attempt made to discredit us and hide any documentation, Although, if we are being visited I wonder if the word 'intelligence' would be used as an adjective to describe us after witnessing what we have done to each other and our planet.
Sorry, I should have been more clear.

(a) UFOs are real. I know this not only because they are theoretically feasible and the USAF invented the term to describe actual pilot observations, I know this because I have seen a UFO myself. A friend and I saw one when we were in college. For about half a minute, we were both awestruck. Then it slowly turned into an IFO and there was, on my part anyway, both a lot of relief as well as some chagrin on not recognizing it sooner. But initially it was an honest and true UFO that could have easily passed for an alien spaceship if we were willing to make that leap.

(b) I believe in extraterrestial life, even ETI life. Given the vastness of the universe, even the vastness of our own galaxy, it seems a certainty that life exists outside of our solar system.

(c) I do not believe in ETI visitations here. The known science just doesn't support it. And the fact that the only people to actually see these spaceships (or to abducted for alien "probings") are almost always country bumpkins doesn't bode well for the credibility of the events or for the intelligence of the visitors. Would you travel lightyears to another planet and limit your encounters to their country bumpkins?

(d) The guvmint is good at keeping secrets but this isn't one of them. There is no there, there. If ETIs wanted to visit us undetected, there would be no sightings by anyone. If ETIs wanted to be detected, there'd be a big public contact that no government could cover up.

(e) You can NOT calculate that an elephant can hang off a cliff with its tail tied to a daisy. The math has to make sense or it's just numerology, and numerology is pretty easy to spot, even for non-mathematicians.

I was kidding about the elephant, no explanation necessary, and I don,t recall saying that we were being visited by ETI, although I don,t believe that it is impossible for other life forms to exist. How many galaxy,s are out there?

We can never assume that such things are not possible, "but the researchers say that such things are not possible, they seem to be correct in they're theories most of the time so they must be correct about this theory".:rolleyes

Whats to say that there isn't a race of beings with a higher intelligence level that know the mechanics of manipulating time and space, we will never truly know until said race of extra terrestrials beings decide to let the world know of they're existence.

As far as I'm concerned every thing has its own theory, we assume that the theory is correct, until we discover evidence that proves otherwise.

Keep an open mind, you will be wise beyond you're years.

Let me end with a quote of lines from a famous extra terrestrial movie.

"A person is smart. People are dumb, panicky dangerous animals and you know it, fifteen hundred years ago everybody knew the Earth was the center of the universe, five hundred years ago, everybody knew the Earth was flat, and fifteen minutes ago, you knew that humans were alone on this planet. Imagine what you'll know tomorrow. "

No, you didn't say we were being visited by ETIs but you did say you believe there's a government cover-up. Of what exactly?

The problem is trying to put all or even most UFOs into a neat little box which doesn't exist. UFOs by definition are the unknown and humans are always uncomfortable with the unknown. That's just human nature, but we have to eventually accept the fact that some things will always be unknown. The UFO I and my friend saw turned out to be a rare but natural phenomenon but had it been, say, ball lightning, it would have disappeared before we could positively identify it and it would have remained a mystery. Undoubtedly some modern UFOs have been experimental aircraft (the original stealth fighter prototype was one IIRC) and the government certainly wouldn't talk about that, but the idea that the government is covering up all or even most UFOs is a stretch IMO. Many, perhaps most, UFOs are natural phenomena and nature has always been with us.

I have a different point of view and I don,t trust governments because of their track record. Absolute power corrupts absolutely. I watched a dear friend lose her battle with ovarian cancer this year basically because she couldn,t afford more treatments and I live in a country that boasts about free health care, her family lost their home in the process. How many more like her have been lost while taxpayers bail out big business? Coverups?!! You must be fucking kidding. Where do I begin?, and I don,t need to start with UFO,s. How about Werner von Braun, a Nazi, designing V-1,V-2 rockets destined for England and responsible for countess deaths and then being brought to the USA to work on the space program after WWII, a war criminal who was never tried at Nuremburg. The usage of chlorine which is a bi-product of uluminum and has a direct link to Alzheimers disease, Gulf of Tonkin, Emmit Till. Now back to the main topic go to youtube...UFO,s Best Evidence Government cover-up.

Sorry about your friend, but you're all over the place with the evil-government stuff. I was talking about cover-ups of UFOs, not cover-ups of any kind at all. Has the government been involved in cover-ups of some bad stuff? Of course. Have they been covering up everything controversial? Of course not. Have they been involved in covering up UFO sightings in general? Doubtful; there's no evidence to believe so. Most UFOs are just unrecognized natural phenomena. What purpose would it serve to cover that up? Not every investigation leads to a satisfactory conclusion; not everything can be explained; not every criminal gets caught. This is the world.

And Werner von Braun was hardly a cover-up. Everybody knew he was a former Nazi rocket scientist. The Soviets had their captured Nazi rocket scientists and we had ours. It was a race to build the best rockets the fastest for ICBMs and the race to space. It wasn't the first or the last time a criminal was maneuvered into working for the cops who caught him. Von Braun had something to offer that the Nazis tried at Nuremberg didn't have to offer. His good luck, their bad.

I thought that you wanted examples, that is why I was all over the place, I added Werner von Braun because he was such an obvious choice, I knew that everyone would know about this case but at the time he was first brought to the USA only government officials knew. The US had military forces based in England during WWII and the ordinary American citizen wouldn,t have been pleased to find that not only had he avoided trial and prosecution but was given such an important role. You seemed to be defending government, so I gave my point of view. I realize that they don,t cover up everything, but they are involved in some serious cover-ups, enough for them to lose my trust and respect and until this system is totally dismantled and rebuilt into one that represents the best interest of everyone and not only the wealthy and powerful, they shall never regain it. This isn,t personal.

Amen, brother. What a colossal slap in the face to every American who fought, died or watched friends and relatives die in the Second World War. What a slap in the face to our English allies.

As for extraterrestrials, I believe there are planets in the universe, big place that it is, which can support intelligent life. I said believe, not know.

And as for the American "health care" system, I can think of no better reason to riot.

Ah...Werner von Braun...the man who made missiles go up and didn't care where they came down...it wasn't his department after all. (rolls eyes)
