This really depends on the situation. If the guy's suddenly whipping out a coupon saving $1.50 on a $20 meal, I'd say he'd probably look like a cheapo--not a great first impression. But, in this instance, we don't even know what the coupon is for. If it's 2-for-1 for bungee jumping...or even an amusement park admission, then it's potentially a pretty substantial savings and not even on the radar, IMO. Generally, it's also no big deal if your date already knows your (approximate) financial situation--e.g., college student? part time employee at a supermarket? etc.
In the absence of more detailed information about both parties, I'd say the best thing is to just do something both affordable and fun. Some have made similar suggestions already, but there's a lot that can be done on a limited budget w/o coupons at all.
