Hey Velly - I'm really sorry for having to do this in public but you've left me with no real alternative. I think I've been very patient and understanding of your situations but it's time to bring this to an end.

I paid you over 8 months ago (up front and in full) for a comic that you have not yet delivered. I realize from your increasingly sporadic communication with me that you've had some personal difficulties - I continue to be sympathetic. That said, however, it's been over 8 months and you need to do the responsible thing.

Please deliver the comic I paid for or return the commission fee.

Out of curiosity, how much did she take you for?

I will have to agree she too owns me an comic commissions which i also had paid for and still nothing. I am wondering if this was just a scam get money off anyone becuase i feel like a fool for paying nearly $200 for my comic.

If you payed that much then dude you are a fool, no offence but a picture ain't worth that much

I'd pay $200 for a custom comic.

Then again, I'd expect it to have, like, at least a hundred frames.

And Bella Donna needs to be in every single one.

i was buying two commissions. One was an picture and the other was an four page comic.

For that much cash I would make you five comics...

It depends on how many pages it has, the size, how many frames per page, if it's full color or not.
A comic done as you wish to sell to whoever might be interested is obviously not worth anywhere near that, but one made just for that person, exactly how they asked you to, can be (though I also do think for a short comic that probably wasn't colored, it's definitely a rip-off). Anything that is custom is more expensive, you can't expect people to produce something special only for you and charge the same.

That said, to Ja'Qalil and killalot2, that Velly person is really the wrong in there, and completely unprofessional and not trustworthy, but I also think you guys shouldn't agree to fully pay for something before you get any proof of the artist's commitment :/
I can't really say too much because I don't know the person, though.

What this man says is truth!

THAT would explain the 'increasingly sporadic' communication. However...and I write this from the heart, and with love, and with my fingers...that those in our community, who pop up every now and then as Velly had, need to first show their commitment. ie; I would gladly pay residents like Bandito, Lotus, Chimpy, Cheshire, Tukano, etc, up front. It's the others who check in that are questionable. My opinion.

well I have to throw my hat into the ring here too cause I payed her $50 for a colored pic and I have yet to get it too and it has been just as long for me too

Wow! I was feeling bad because I have six commissions to do, and so far it's taken me around two weeks to get three of them done. And now, I do not feel bad anymore! Amazing thread.

hello.

i decided to jump into the conversation for obvious reasons. first of all, i already talked to jaquill and we have an agreement.
i went through a lot of changes in a single year. changes that are too painful to mention here that made me fail in some commissions. i already send an email to some of those who commisioned me.
this doesn't mean that i haven't failed them. i did. and i dearly apologize. i'm grateful to those who understood and to those who haven't yet i'll gladly send their money back.

now, let me clarify something about prices. a commission price can be different from one to another depending on how complicated or exclusive this artwork is. jaquill's commission is a challenging one. is practically a very elaborated whole comic book story. it involves a lot of backgrounds, a lot of character reactions and hence, a lot of time to get produced. i'm talking about, pencils, colors, digital composition, dialogue and a lot of pages. it's a very fun project but he can tell you by previous comics that i've worked for him, that we get involved into the story and they get bigger and more elaborate than expected. this kind of work can cost more that $200. but i decided to do it because it was fun.

what i went through wasn't easy. jaquill knows what im talking about and as a human being i can forget or lose track of stuff. i would appreciate a friendly email if i haven't work on your commission yet.

thanks for your time

If you don't mind me giving my opinion, I understand comics are tricky, since it can take a couple of days to get even a single page done, or more if it's in color, and I'm not gonna talk about the time because I'm sure you have your reasons, an that's not of my business, but I just think that if you're not sure you can deliver things soon, you could make a different agreement on payment, like half on sketch completion, half on the finished work, or getting the payment upon completing the job.

I'm just saying because I do it like that for that precise reason. Even though I usually do manage to finish things quickly, since I'm not sure, I only ask for payment when I'm done. That way you can take all the time you need without the costumers getting worried or too anxious.

I do realize it might be hard to trust everybody like that, but if they can trust you to pay up front, you could try it too.
Just a suggestion that works for me. Feel free to ignore it C:

yes, i do understand and i do take your suggestion as a very valuable one.
i used to work that way but i ended up with so many unclaimed artworks on my hands that it turned out to be annoying. i've done all kind of work for different companies. the tickling stuff is not my area of expertise. i was introduced to it a couple of years ago.
by the way, i love your artwork!! wow!

Thanks for getting back to me i hope to see preview of the commission soon

I see. I guess that's the bad part of working like this, either way both parties are gonna have to just trust each other, but that's hard to do online with everybody.
Personally I think getting half for the sketch and half on the finished work might be the best alternative. That way the person will know you're committed before they pay anything and you don't have to keep going until the end without getting paid.
Thank you very much C: I love your art too, though unfortunately I haven't had the chance to see much of it yet.

i already talked to jaquill and we have an agreement.

Velly has once again agreed to start delivering pages each Friday, starting this Friday, until the comic is complete. I'll be back on Saturday with an update.
