Video Game Emulation: Right or wrong?

lol I'd love to have a 3DO again just to be able to play Twisted. That was an awesome game. 😛 😀

can anyone please post any reliable links where i can download SNES ROMS for free? or if yall can post some ROMS, that will be great too.

I'm afraid posting links to rom sites would be detrimental to the forum.
Sharing them over mails would make more sense, since sites go up and down, and older links would turn outdated quickly.

Emulation is actually quite legal, so long as you own "hard copies" of all of the games you download. You are entitled to retain one copy of any software you own for archival purposes...

🙄 Ah, yes! Another one of those made-up rules about rom downloading. Owning the original cart or ISO don't mean shit. Sorry but, it's true. Think about it. What if you loose the original game or sale it? Does that then mean that you no longer have the right to own the back-up? That's just another lame rule that emu sites make up to cover their asses so that no one like the ESA comes around threatening to shut them down for software piracy. I myself *am* a rom pirate and rom provider. I don't have a site or page as I distribute through groups and such and I will tell you all straight up that emu rules are still in that gray area where no one can really prove what is or isn't 100% legal/illegal so, don't sweat it if you don't have the original game and don't buy in to all those lameass rules like deleting after 24 hours and all of that other crap because that's just exactly what it is...crap! Download, upload, edit and so on. The ESA can't legally touch you unless you're providing retail softs and even then all they can do is make petty little threats so, just chill and play on, playas!

Actually as the original purchaser of something (be it a video game, DVD, video, etc) you are entitled to hold a backup copy for your own use. Sure ROM sites know damn well people aren't always an original purchaser of said product but it's a "cover my ass" clause that is absolutely necessary. But anyway...owning a purchased hard copy of whatever it is DOES give you the legal right to have a copy. Not that it means much since no one's gonna come arrest you for playing ROMS anyway. 😛

ya, ROMS are great, finding them to download for free, without the hassles of supporting their sites and yadda yadda. but it's quite hard. spent 30 minutes at like 50 or so sites, got diddly squat, and a trojan virus was loaded onto my comp, so i said that's it, i give up. (Norton detected it, and deleted it before i could say "Oh fiddlesticks" yay for Norton Antivirus) that's why i asked if anyone knew of any reliable sites.

Well...

Reliable rom sites are just like ... mmm... honest italians? 😉 😉 😉
[I *can* do that kind of national humour... 😀 ]

But let me give you a wee bit hint: the best ones out there are not american based. Sometimes, not even american speaking.

It's no surprise, then, I've installed all those otherwise useless language packs for my browser... 😉

Perhaps you have a point there Ness. Know of a reputable site that insists that that is so-I'd like to read up on it. Norm, my man, you're searching the wrong way. Stay away from all of the popular download spots and when you search, do it inderectly. For instance say you want Chrono Trigger for SNES. Go to Google (turns up the most hits) type in "chrono" "mb" or "mo" "download" "dump" "zsnes"... Stuff like that. The best way to start out is to hit the groups, ask a few questions but, not request roms (you'll find out why later on) and check they're links section. Good luck, dude!

Clue train time! Chuga chuga choo choo!

You can debate the morality of it ALL you want. But the hard fact exists that while outdated systems manufacturers have no problems with you downloading their games, ALL OTHER FORMS OF DOWNLOADING ELECTRONIC MEDIA ARE ILLEGAL. You can say "pfft...who cares, fuck big corporations", yeah but if everyone thought that, we wouldn't have SHIT worth of a digital media manufacturer left in the world.

Honestly, I can't stand the people that say that big corporations "don't deserve" the money because they "have too much". Think about that. That's a remarkably communist thought when you ponder it...but of course, it's convinient to you...so who cares? 🙄

PC game downloaders, music downloaders, PS2, XBOX, GameCube downloaders, this one is for you: You're the reason the industry is hurting, not Nickelback or shitty games, sorry. Deny it all you want, until you admit it, I'll boast my legal collection of 200+ PC games. (I'm not rich by any means, either.) Kthx.

(Sorry for the harshness, but this pisses me off.)

First of all, being European, I don't consider communism the nexus of all evils.

Second, that is not communism: soviet communism strongly regulated citizen's life - everybody had a set allotment of vouchers, and they could spend them to buy food, drink and so on.
Comparision doesn't stand.

Third, open source is probably more similar to communism. Illegal sharing of files is simply breaking the existing law.

It should be said, on the other hand, that many corps are really out to make money, not make players satisfied.

Some hard facts? Temple of Elemental Evil still sells here at 59 euros. It'd been rushed, support is lacking and you can't simply end it since the bugs sometimes corrupt even save games.

Mechwarrior 4 Mercs still retails at 59 euros - can you see a trend?
It's been out for a couple of years, now, and it would be nice to see it at bargain bins or something.
No such luck in my country.

I'd like to see original games being shipped without waiting months for a poor useless dubbing.
I'd have to order those - cheaper - originals over the net. I don't like to, I sometimes just have.

For example, I had to buy Mechwarrior 2 Mercs over Ebay because I couldn't find it *anywhere*. And I had to wait 2 weeks to get it.

Just my personal story.

So, please, discriminate between "crimes" - and reasonable availability of merchandise.

You can be pissed off, but it's *my* wallet we are speaking of.

first, corps are money hungry. period. it's a F A C T. corps make millions of dollars a day, and reject moral standards and safety at times to save a little money. they trick you, add cheaper less costly parts to products, and they are the essence of greed and immorality in my oppion. but hey, you can keep being the corp's little doggie if you like, they say jump, you say how high. now with you and your low income and 200 games? pahlease. when i turned 18, i had $92,000 in a trust fund, and i waited sooo long for games to get cheaper (takes at least 6 months to quit being anal and lower prices.) now i shit you not when i say i spent literally thousands of dollars on games over a looong period of time, and no way in hell i ever had near 200. so go play with your 200 $1.00 worth atari games. if it's possible to get anything free i will. think i'm gonna be the corp's little piggie and not get something for free when possible? think not. now i haven't gotten much because most sites have viruses, spam, and ads, oh my. communism isn't evil btw. it's a form of government formed by Marx to help improve on the government of his time. yes, it's a failing way of government, and world leaders in communist countries were evil, yes, i.e. Joseph Stalin, Hitler, etc. but communism is just a different type of government, which america rammed into the minds of americans in the 50's - 70's that is was evil to justify the cold war and vietnam war. (Vietnam War being the biggest blunder of a war being that we went into it in for that other countries might become communist, and as i result many great men lost there lives and we lost it miserably)

Don't sweat it, man. You're intitled to your opinion. That's what this thread is for.

Ummm...I'm all for companies who want to make the big $$. More power to em if that's what they're after. But honestly I think that I'm only robbing them of their profits if I was choosing downloading INSTEAD of purchasing. And really I'm in no position to buy lots of software and stuff so they wouldn't be getting any money from me anyway. 😀 😀
But what about SNES and stuff? Nintendo doesn't make that system or it's games anymore so the only people with a chance to lose out on $$ there are people selling it second (and third and fourth) hand.
