On your side note: Yes. The puritans did turn a tolerant eye on the drinking of alcohol (small beers and wine), but only in strict moderation; because drunkenness was the devils work. And if lifting a bucket on the Sabbath would land you in the stocks, tying a rave on would probably get you banished. But there is a misnomer about the Pilgrims landing in Massachusetts because they ran out of beer and wanted a cold one. Truth is, on long voyages, Ships Beer (and to a lesser extent, small beer) had antimicrobial properties (in the phenols, more so than the alcohol) while fresh water would become swampish and bacterial on a long sea voyage. Mostly they probably chose to land because they ran out of safe small beer to drink and the elders feared for illness.

That aside, I chose the phrase "Non-alcoholic cider" more for effect; that their idea of a party was goofy and dull. ...that is, until he got to the public tickle torture part. 😉
