Hi BigJim,
Hahaha! Well, yeah, I guess over 30,000 students makes for a fairly big campus. Not all full-time students of course, but still, it's a lot. However, while you'd think that would be all I need, in practice it's not such an awesome model pool. Oh, it's pretty good, but like I mentioned in a couple of posts and e-mails to people, people in Quebec City are somewhat conservative. They're not quite as wild and open to crazy stuff as in some other, larger cities. So even with all those girls on campus I don't get that many who are willing to take the plunge. I think I do a very good job, but if anyone has any suggestions for making my model-recruitment ads more appealing, please let me know.
By the way, by "having access" I simply mean that I live a couple of minutes from campus. I can actually see the edge of it from my place. In fact, I studied there myself for 7 years. So I know the buildings very well, including all the billboards I can use to avertise for models. I'll definitely do a major ad campaign next September.
Oh yeah, another thing: in addition to the campus there are 3 CEGEPs in my neighborhood. I don't know if many of you are aware of our school system in Quebec. We have 6 years of elementary school, as Americans do, I believe, but we only have 5 years of high school. That's because instead of going directly to college we have to go through at least two years of what's called "collegial" (strange term for something that's not college) or "cegep". It's, uh, kinda like prep school, in the sense that it's more challenging than high school and prepares people for college, but it's public. I don't know what percentage of people attend cegep, but it's fairly high. That includes most of my friends and acquaintances did.
So anyway, my point is that, technically, these three cegeps (a total of about 13,000 students, I think) could represent sources of models. And since most people in cegeps are 17-20, that means young models, which isn't a bad thing. However, while a lot, if not most, are effectively of legal age, I feel that advertising in the cegeps is a borderline situation. Many students there are still 17, especially early in the school year, and it's not quite the open-minded world of new experiences that college is. So I hesitate to advertise there, even if it does have some interesting potential and I would only accept 18+ anyway.
All this to say that I live in a student-heavy neighborhood. At 29 I feel a little old around here. Still, I may not be in college anymore, but I still think of the place as my home. I'm quite comfortable next to campus.
About me being a genius, well, I just live here. No brainwork went into finding a way to access a college campus. I mean, when you live next to one, using it as a source of models really goes without saying. And the campus is totally open to the public. But I thank you for the compliment.
