Hey SY: Could be the type of head your using, also if you cut an airhole in the head(front) it helps, the back head should be a double ply non coated, oil filled and tightened about 3/4 full, just a few wrinkles around the edges, and put a pillow inside the drum, to muffle the sound, also a felt beater will produce lower end sound, rather than a wood or hard plastic one.
