Most of the movies people mentioned here (EX: Neverending Story) were part of my childhood because they were ubiquitous experiences for us in the VHS days.
JESUS JOSEPH AND MARY IN TINSEL TOWN that movie is TRAUMATIZING FOR KIDS! I mean, I cried for like, the WHOLE DAY and a HALF after the heroine's horse died! Also, G'mork was fucking TERRIFYING! (shudders) Jesus that wolf gave me NIGHTMARES that will haunt me till the day I DIE!
I loved The NeverEnding Story as well but G'mork scared the shit out of me at the time. lol
Dude, he STILL TERRIFIES PEOPLE! THAT WOLF IS NIGHTMARE FUEL!
Willow, with Val Kilmer, Joanne Whalley and Warwick Davis.
I'll have to second Bator, and go with Willow.
Willow was AWESOME! Val and Warwick pulled it off FANTASTICALLY! I still love that line, "I STOLE THE BABBBBYYYYY!...FASTER YOU STUPID BIRD"! LOL.
I remember, though, a time when The Karate Kid II was actually more popular than the original, although that ended in the early 90s when both films were put aside after part III and then 10 years later when the original resurfaced in the zeitgeist.
YES...just...just YES DUDE! I LOVE Karate Kid Part II! Pat Morita may have not been using his actual accent but it didn't matter cause he made that movie so AWESOME! The villain was nasty and the hero was cool and saved the day / got the girl! Loved! It!
😀
...and then Jackie Chan decided to trample on my childhood. Sigh, oh well.
🙁
Star Wars came out when I was somewhere between 5-7 and it was love at first sight!
I remember when I saw Star Wars Special Edition when it came out in Theaters in the 90's. My father said he said wonder in my eyes for the first time. I long for that feeling to return yet every time it does something like, "The Phantom Menace" comes around and ruins it for me. Still, good memories.
As for me, I'd go with the first Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie (1990). Raphael was just the right amount of brooding, Mike was a party animal, Splinter was a loving father, and Shredder was bad ass and I loved EVERY SINGLE SECOND OF IT!
😀
Also, does anyone remember the old Disney flick: The Sword in the Stone? I loved watching that movie as a kid.
Also, I'd go for Explorers (starring Ethan Hawke and River Phoenix), Ghostbusters (seriously, who wouldn't love that movie), Godzilla 1985 (the movie that made Godzilla SCARY / AWESOME instead of a running joke), and a few others.
