I've never seen What About Bob?. I know ... shame on me.

Stand by Me is a friggin' classic.

Close Encounters of the Third Kind is one of THE very best science fiction movies. Ever.

For my money , though , I gotta go w/Jaws. This movie delivers in just about every manner possible & still holds up well almost thirty-five years after its original release.

Definitely this. 😀

Mr. Holland's Opus. As terrible as his final "masterpiece" is, it always makes me tear up a little.

Down and Out in Beverly Hills.

He was also pretty funny in "Jaws" as well.

"Heh, they're all gonna die."

"AYE-AYE, Jimboy, arrr!"

I absolutely love this guy!!

I don't think I can pick one.

-Mr Holland's Opus
-The Goodbye Girl
-Jaws

So full of win!

P.S. Ted, this thread made me think of you :bubbleheart:

Jaws would be number one.
Othello was awesome
Close Encounters would be next.

Mr Holland's Opus. Dreyfuss was awesome in that film, and it was so real, being the story of a man's life, which worked out well, even though his life did not go as he had planned.

I'm surprised nobody thinks American Graffiti is worth mentioning...

But Jaws is clearly the bestest. 😀

The Good-Bye Girl....his most entertaining
Always.....his most heartbreaking
Who's Life is it Anyway.....most tragic
Let It Ride....most existentialist

I've never seen Jaws

So I'm gonna go with Close Encounters.

Jaws
Close Encounters
The Goodbye Girl
Mr. Holland's Opus

Bumping this thread because I've adored this man my entire life. Close Encounters was the first movie I ever saw him in, and it just blew my mind as a kid. I was fascinated with the concept of aliens since birth, so when my parents let me watch that (I was maybe 8), it was a big deal for me. I loved the Stakeout movies as a kid too. Always is also good and of course, Jaws and American Graffiti.

However, my favorite movie of his is The Goodbye Girl. One of the best romantic movies of all time, without a doubt. He's perfect in it. So cute and funny and sweet and just...ugh. I was soooo jealous of the girl in the movie because she got to love on him. I'll adore that character forever!

Dreyfuss was so hysterical in "What About Bob".

"Jaws" was his definitive movie.

"The Goodbye Girl" was ok but had one of his greatest lines: "And I-don't-like-the-panties-hanging-on-the- rod!"

The ones he's not in.

Loathe that annoying little cretin.
