I figure this has come up before, but I guess it couldn't hurt to bring it up again. What kind of weird/boring/exciting jobs does everyone have? I currently work in a factory, making the cardboard tubs you buy your ice cream in... not so exciting, but hey, somebody's gotta do it, right? I was just curious about what some of the rest of us do when we're being "normal" (if there is such a thing...)

Jobs...

Not sure we HAVE had this thread...hmmmmm. Anyway, I'm a business owner...I have a factory where guys make tubs for ice cream..err..no...wrong life. Actually I own real estate, a few laundromats and an airplane that tows banners above the beach to annoy people or ask them if they want to get married (same thing...lol). Q

Ben or Jerry?

Q, do you fly the plane? that sounds like it would be fun.

dietary part of healthcare for me. and a lot of paper and pencil pushing.

Protecting the galaxy from evil dictators and the Dark Side of the Force...

...and for some reason, I seem to be the one handed the job of cleaning the sink in the Mod Lounge, which is a daunting task considering that it is not equipped with a garbage disposal and Marauder seems to think that a whole slice of pizza is the appropriate size for a sink trap.

The next time, the lightsaber's going right down the f*cking drain! You think Liquid Plumber's good? Try Plasma Plumber.... :sowrong:

I work for a corporation that owns a bunch of group homes in the area. I work at one of the homes, with five (soon to be six, a new one is coming in) mentally retarded and physically disabled clients. I have the level of training basically of a CNA, but I'm only certified to administer medication and do other nursing-type work for homes within the corporation.

ice cream is a fantastic thing, as are the people who package it 😀

First off, Dave, SORRY for the pizza already! Sheesh, don't bicker so! It was only a single three-week-old... well, "slice", or puddle thereoff. Is it my fault that you can't deal with the smell and the flies?

As for a job, I'm a college student with CompSci as my major, and will remain such for some more years. To finance myself, I work backstage at a few local theaters (the thesbian-actor kind, not a movie place), moving and assembling backdrops and such. Also, I hang around a friend's goth-rock band a lot, hoping to be recognized as an official roadie...

Wow, written down, it almost sounds like a life... Why doesn't it feel like one... The world is a dark, boring place, filled with tedious repetative tasks... Now I'm depressed... :cry1: I need to eat something to cheer me up. Maybe there's more pizza in the sink, nearsighted as Dave is, he likely missed a blob of cheese there...

*wanders off*

trick question

right now i'm part of the ever growing unemployed masses.
when i'm earning a pay check i'm a nurse (full r.n.).
funny thing is, in the chicago area i haven't been able to even get an interview, but in mesa arizona two weeks ago, i received a job offer from both places i went to! so if my school teacher wife gets a call from the mesa school system, we may be moving.
good topic, it's nice to know what people do.

My Job

I do a lot of different jobs with one title. I'm the Loss Prevention Analyist for Netflix.

I handle shipping related questions and issues for customer service. I am the liaision between customer service and the shipping departments (filtering questions so that one person asks about an issue vs. 30 or more). I track and monitor shipping problems from a customer service perspective and compare that data with other departments to indicate trends and problems that they may not be aware of.

I help cusotmer service understand postal related issues and keep them up to date on what is going on. For example when the Brentwood Post Office closed (and still is to my knowledge) it was my job to let Customer Service know what areas were effected and what type of delays could occur. I research address validation issues, and help resolove other shipping problems that customer's are encountering through my contacts or indirectly through the USPS' own customer care system.

I track detailed data from customer service regarding mail theft from within the USPS and forward that information to the United States Postal Inspection Service. This information helps the USPIS narrow down where to look internally to resolve postal theft issues. I work with a number of postal inspectors to reduce mail loss by employee theft, and to provide data for prosecution of said employees.

I work with local law enforcement (such as the District Attorney of Santa Clara County), law enforcement in other counties and states, and federal law enforcement agencies to resolve issues of credit card fraud and theft of our material. I work to stop accounts that are fraudulent and to recover our merchandise from said people. If needed I put together the research and documentation to obtain a search warrant.

I will have to say that the only time I wish I didn't have this job was on September 11th when I had to go through and find the accounts located in the buildings (that we shipped to) and to read the mail from the victims family explaining that their loved one or friend died and wanted the account closed, or a similar line of questions and comments.

I am a freelance Computer Graphics Artist, and I also do some webdesign on the side (although according to one forum member, since I work out of my home, I am "just a housewife" and not entitled to an opinion *snorts*). Come this fall though, I am going back to college to jump into my first love, and favorite field of study: Real Estate. I can't wait 😀

P.S. areenactor....you should try Wisconsin!! Every day you pick up the paper and there are at LEAST 10+ job ads for nurses. We are so short-handed in this area it's not even funny.

I manage a comic book store, and do a touch of freelance writing. At different times I've managed a mailroom, convience store, been a Professor of Mathmatics, and made loose change as a jewlery designer, and tutor, and the all purpose 'consultant'.

Work???

We work?...I guess you can call it that. I am actually a District Trainer/Store Manager for a major video chain. I run a store and teach others how to as well as having 10 store managers report to me
on various training issues and programs.

i work in the wonderful world of customer service for a wireless phone company. i work in the "collections" department. and let me tell you, i am so used to the lies that people give, you would think i have no heart. i'm glad i like tickling so much. it makes wonderful therapy..........in fact there are a few coworkers who fell prey to my tickling touches.....

I used to be in the tourism industry for 25 years, wandering through various departments and companies. Everything from a tour guide to a salesperson, marketing manager and independent branch manager. Right now, my health prevents getting a new job.

It has always been my dream job: Even before I even knew that travel agencies exist at all, I wanted to do something where I could travel the world, learning about different cultures (and culinary habits😛), and talking to many people from everywhere. This has never changed in all the 25 years, throughout all the inevitable ups and downs. :dreaming with closed eyes:

I am a male exotic dancer....no, no thats what I do to annoy people. I know I am a professor with three adorable little girls named Bubbles, Blossom, and Buttercup who fight crime.....no, no thats that Utonium guy. I am an actor who eats large amounts of ice cream keeping executioner's job secure....no, no that is Marlon Brando.

Think, think.......oh I know I am a senior chemist who works at a medical lab.

I'm an audio engineer. I'm the guy that sits in the booth and tells musicians that they are going to have to do another take because the hit/sang a wrong note. I've got my own project studio at home (24 tracks all digital). My wife and I also run a karaoke business.

For all you animals...I mean animal lovers...I'm a veterinarian. Once upon a time, I worked on large and small critters. Least favorite "pet" was a 400 lb. sow. No, not one of those cute little pot bellied pig things. A SOW. Nothing cute about it. Just big. The nice thing about that job was getting those midnight phone calls...no, wait, that wasn't the nice thing...the nice thing was being able to see the stars while I was out on the farm call thanks to the air being less smog filled. Nowadays, I settle for cats and dogs. Not a 9 to 5 job, but I like it. Worst thing that can happen....well, I won't get into that here 😱

Nice subject.....

Neato Thread!

I worked my way through college at a variety of casinos becoming what they call a "gaming law expert," you know...the person who turns the private info you never thought the casino had on you over to the feds when you win. 😛 I tracked player spending and win/loss levels, etc. etc. etc. *Yawn* Yeah, I had plenty of time to get there with 7 years as a university senior~!! LOL All that to later give up being an English teacher (GASP- whouda thunk it, eh?)

Then one fateful day, I took brush in hand and began to paint. Lo and behold some nearly blind man saw my work and gave me cash. 😉 The rest is history. Other than the bitch of getting oil paint out of my favorite clothes, and the burnout I get nearly half the time, it's not a bad life. *sigh* Ain't life grand? 😛

Joby...looking at those wasted student loans.🙄

We're a nice diverse group, eh?

Until June 26,2002 I was a teaching assistant. In the fall, I will be an Early Childhood Education student.

Job??

I work for Uncle Sam in the good old US Army as a reservist (though I'll be going full time soon enough, have no doubts). And I attend college off and on, working towards a degree - any degree. Otherwise, I specialize in eating pop-tarts and going to the beach, the mall, and other under-21 pursuits. Think it sounds like fun? Well actually, it is. I wouldn't trade it for a real life, have you no doubts. 🙂

i build pools(above ground),for now.i have no clue what i`m gonna do in the winter.

Bump...

Take down/close the pools you put up? 😉 Besides, there's no winter on LI, buddy!
