Well, for me it HAS to be the Sidious/Mace fight, including the bit where Sidious slices down 3 Jedi at the start (Kit Fisto, NOOO). Probably because Palpatine was always one of my favourite characters in the series, and to see him fighting...against Samuel L. Jackson no less...woah.

Exactly. Also, alot of people fail to remember that the three Jedi Windu brought with him to arrest Palpatine were all Masters that he hand-selected from who was available.

Alot of people think that they were so easily beaten because they were still green or something. The fact they are veterans and some of the most powerful jedi, and were so easily and quickly defeated says alot about the power Palpatine has been hiding and concealing within himself all this time.

I also liked that he dueled while still in the Palpatine facade. He didn't actually fight as Sidious until his duel with Yoda. So, we get to see him fight as both his personalities. One is the charming politician and the other is the devil. Awesome.

I find it hard to judge which fight was better becuz Anakin vs. Obi-wan was pure CGI, while Luke vs. Vader had some lesser CGI, but still more "real". Best fight: Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon vs. Darth Maul!!! Even through CGI, then acrobatic stunts by Maul were amazing, and the movements were fluent and fast

Are you refering to the backgrounds and special effects, or the stunts and actual swordplay? Because Ewan and Hayden did most of the swordplay and stunts themselves and they trained long and hard to do it. It wasn't CG, nor was the speed they were fighting at digitally accelerated or enchanced. Its all real and its all them. The only thing thats fake is the lava, the sabers, some of the Force moves they use, and things like that.

As far as a physical permformance by the actors themselves, the Darth Vader/Obi-Wan Kenobu duel in III is the best one out of the entire saga. They deserved some sort of academy award for that. They really trained hard and long to get the choreography to what we experienced. And for them being actors who don't do that for a living, they sure made it seem like they've been doing it forever.

Props to stunt coordinator Nick Gillard for bringing out the best in these two and the others.

thanks for the form information vlad, that was an awesome read.

I like Mace Windu alot, probably because of his form...

I always remember his style being all about him, which would have led to the dark side dispite his incredible ability to stay focused.

You're welcome.

Windu had hid Vaapad under control, so I doubt he will have turned to the dark side after such a long time of using the form. Others are not so fortunate, and the Sith don't care since the Juyo is perfect for them. Darths Maul and Sidious are two examples of darths who have used the form.

Yoda and Qui-Gon are good examples of Form IV, Obi-Wan is a good example of Form III, Vader is a good example of Form V, and Luke is a good example of Form VI. Although, Luke would go on to excel in several forms, far surpassing his father's abilities and those of the Emperor. Although, when Palpatine returns from the dead in his new clone body he too has aqquired even more power and there is a time where Luke willingly becomes the Emperor's apprentice because of it, making it seem as though Palpatine has finally devoured the souls of the Skywalker family.

Yeah, i remember hearing soemthing about luke going to the darkside and then being on the light side again later when he ends up with this chick from a computer or something.

I just say Vader/Luke from V because, in my opinion, it's got Vader at his most awesome. Using his saber one-handed, having all the best lines, and just totally pwning Luke around.

Sammi-chan is clearly correct here. Not to mention: c'mon, seriously, ANYthing in The Empire Strikes Back has gotta be better than ANYthing in that Whatever Of The Sith movie. I'd rather watch the closing credits of The Empire Strikes Back than the most interesting or exciting scene of The Sith And I, or whatever it was called. Rather watch Empire through cheesecloth with bad Inuit dubbing than anything in How The Sith Stole Christmas or... but perhaps I'm repeating myself...

ROFL Easy there Darth Wade! (yes, I'm christening you a Darth, whether you like it or not! :super_hap 😛)

I think it's somewhat safe to say that many Star Wars "people" are more in favour of Epis IV - VI then I - III. I'm neither for nor against either set... I like (and dislike) bits and pieces from old school SW and new school SW. To say which duel was better when both movies were done in different periods of time is equivalent to comparing apples to oranges. My opinion: compare duels from same sets, not different sets. Comparing anything from one set to the other is just an extension of the which Star Wars is better debate: IV - VI or I - III?

I don't remember but has something like this be'en said somewhere before...:umm:

I haven't seen any of the Star Wars movies, but from the trailers and what not (haha) I'd pick the red faced guy with the bow staff sabers vs Obi or whoever he fought.

The red faced guy looks like the only guy in the Star Wars movies who actually has martial arts training.

That would be Ray Parks. He played Darth Maul. He is also trained is various martial arts, which were an asset to his performance, most definitely.

At the risk of going OT: here's a clip that shows a light side of Darth Vader 😉

rofflecakes!

Since I've already kept this thread as on-topic as it can get with what the question answering and providing the saber fighting styles, it cannot hurt to share a couple funny ones I found too:

"Vader Dad" (Vader isn't pleased with what his son has been doing)
http://youtube.com/watch?v=EFKaLfs68Sk

"Darth Vader being an ass" (I got a good lol out of this one 😀 The ending was priceless 😀)

well my fav is not any of the choices. Its (papa)palpatine and yoda in the senate room, that was sick.

I agree about not comparing Old SW with New SW.

If I were to pick from the new set though, Maul vs Qui Gon / Obi Wan would be my pick. I would have chosen the Obi / Anakin fight were it not for the fact that I feel Episode III lacked a good deal of emotional punch. Just imagine what it would have been like, to have an Anakin actually pissed, and not playing the hero gimmick for Padme. An Anakin that would have actually fought Mace instead of just cut his hand. An Anakin that had tried killing Padme on purpose, rather than by accident. Add all those things up, and by the time the fight started it would have been so much more intense than how it felt to me.

From the Old set on the other hand, definitely Empire Strikes Back... it has all the right stuff: a menacing and powerful Vader, an amateur Luke fighting to defend his life more than trying to save his friends (Vader is too much of a handful to him at that point)... clearly the best one.

Qui Gon & Obi Wan vs Darth Maul gets my vote. I just wish Qui Gon was in more than one episode. 🙁

ya know, for a proper poll, ya need more options. there ARE better battles than those two, it's all a matter of opinion

I say vader Vs luke cause that duel is about the line's, drmatic story unfolding and sheer star wars retro ownage. But the duel bvetweeen Obi wan and Anakin rocks as well

But you just can't go around Darth vader😀

MMm, rewinding a couple pages, but the other thing was, they were all clumped up at the start with lightsabers ignited - none of them were exactly expecting Palpatine to have his lightsaber on hand, and to be able to close the distance so quickly. Only Mace and Kit had time to even fall back into defensive stances, the other two were caught by surprise. Recall also the Kit died in the doorway, with little to no space to move.
Anyway, back on track with the thread: I enjoyed the Maul vs Obi-wan/Qui-gon fight a fair bit, mostly because I enjoyed Maul's way of combat. ESB's end duel was good for Vader being a badass, RotJ was good for Vader's limits pushed... so all in all, I haven't really added much at all to the thread XD

you all have some good points, though my fav has to be a tie between the darth maul dual and vader vs. luke in 5. sure, obi wan vs. anakin was visually impressive, but i knew how that one ended, so that made it lose it's punch, and it didn't have the finesse as my 2 favs.
