Well, look at it this way, when it comes to the Shinki/Asuka/Rei love triange.

Asuka is a normal girl. She's fiery, rude, overconfident...yet underneath all of that, she's very vulnerable, and this is what I feel, makes her a very interesting character.

Rei is a clone of Ikari, Shinji's mother. Ask yourself this question...would you want to do it with your own mother??!!! O_O

Evangelion is definatly a classic series, and one of the first anime series I got into (after watching all the dubbed Manga Entertainment videos I got from my cousin, things like 'Ghost in the Shell', 'Fist of the North Star' and other 18 certificate rated goodness full of violence, swearing and full frontal nudity!).

Personally, I prefer Rei, myself. But.... for the most annoying thing in anime, I would have to say it was Kodachi's laugh.

I'd love nothing more than to talk about it, but maybe you can edit some of your post to take out the spoilers, or at least warn about them so anyone who just so happens to not have seen that far into the series won't be disappointed?
