Woo, looks like I have a lot to catch up on. All of this CCS makes me ponder about looking into Tsubasa Chronicles. Also, thanks for pointing moi towards MegaTokyo, LonelyKimiko. I picked up the first volume a couple of days ago and I really enjoyed it. I suppose I could read more of it online, but I'll just wait until I go to the mall again to pick up whatever volumes I can find.

Megatokyo just came out with their 4th volume. Ive read through two I think. It's a real good series. I find it's easier to read in book form than online, but thats just me.

Didn't see you until after I posted, that I did not. CCS is a classic it is, one of CLAMP's masterworks. A fine romp in the magical girl/shoujo genre. Too cutsey for some, though, although the original, unedited version has many more mature themes (Yaoi, anyone?).

The original Japanese version features what is sometimes hinted at in the American dub: Syaoran Li's "attraction" to Yukito, Yukito's homosexuality with Touya, etc. Seriously. It's like Yu-Gi-Oh!: The American dub is nowhere near the original. Like two different shows, almost (To be fair, they did rename the American dub of CCS just-plain "Cardcaptors.").

There are a lot of heavy homosexual overtones in Card captor. There's the Tory(sakura's brother) and Julian(guy with glasses who turns into yua, the guy who looks like an angel) thing, then there's the Julian and Sakura's rival, Lee, and then there's been a lot of hinting at Sakura and Madison(the dark haired girl who is Sakura's best friend), and a whole hell of a lot of other little things.

And of course there's the whole cross dressing thing. It seemed whenever there was a play or something like that, the males and female would always reverse roles. Ie, in sleeping bueaty, Sakura played prince charming while Lee played sleeping bueaty. This seemed to be a reacuring theme in the series.

Then there's the whole under age relationships. For example, Tory, when he was in maybe junior high, so i'm guessing 14 or so, had a relatiopnship with his teacher, Miss Makenzy i think it is, who leavs to go to America and later comes back and becomes Sakura's teacher and plays a fairly important role int the series(though i still hate the bitch, not sure why but i do), and then there is also the relationship between one of Sakura's school friends and their teacher. Sakura's mother was also a student i believe who fell in lover with Sakura's father who was a teacher. None of the relationships was physical to my knowledge, simply emotional, and to be honest i always find the idea of the last one somewhat endearing. Basically, when the girl finishes the school year, the teacher gives her a small golden ring, and tells her to come back to him when she's grown up.

But thats one of the more endearing things about card captors when it came to these things that would be incredibly taboo over here. Nobody ever had a sexual interest in the other party. It Wasn't like Tory or Julian were gay, or anything. It was more like the charactors in the series simply found their sole mates and as it is in real life, we don't choose who our soulmates are.

In a nutshell, not a bad series, depending on what your looking for.

I lost count of all the "strange" relationships in the series. I only read the manga. I've watched about a quarter of the anime. I may get back into it when I am feeling more ambitious.
But as for what you meantioned above, the word that popped into my mind as well was "endearing". Despite student/teacher relationships and the multitude of homosexual attractions there was never a single hint of a suggestion that there was anything wrong with any of it. It just fit with the story and the characters. it was all quite beautiful. Really I wanted to see more scenes with Sakura's classmate and their teacher cause they were just so damn cute.
If the great HDS has any pictures of this pairing for nessie to add to her collection she would be apreciative. ^^

I agree. It's much more convenient being able to take it anywhere. And given how short my memory is for checking things on the internet (If my frequent ins and outs in this thread are any hint) I can barely remember to check my e-mail, let alone keep up with a webcomic XD I'll check the mall later this week, hopefully they'll have some more for me to pick up. I'm not sure quite what it is I enjoy about the art style, but it's unique to say the least.

Maybe I should catch up on CCS again - I used to watch it whenever it was on TV, but when they stopped airing it I sort of forgot. Bad memory and all. Through the magic of internet I may perhaps find a way to finish it o.o I like the artwork quite a lot, since I'm a ***** for good character designs. The amount of costumes for Sakura is mind boggling @.@
