Koopa...if you're unsure if a show is anime or American there are two sure ways to find out.
Look at the mouths. American shows seem to have more different mouth positions. Also if the mouth makes an "F" movement when making an "F" sound then you can bet the character was drawn speaking English.
Wait til the end of the show and read the credits. American names? American show. Japanese names? Anime.

AND it is quite untrue, Jay, that bullets miss the main character. They often get hit (in the shoulder) with a non-fatal wound that heals very quickly. And anyway, maybe you're not the main charcter. 😀 😀 😀
