Why do women see wedding differently than men?

I don't see it as a big fairy tale thing.

I see it as the most frightening thing in the world.

Marry someone? Be stuck with them forever? *shudders* I couldn't imagine a worse fate.

I'm commitment phobic.

Not tarred & feathered, but probably sent to therapy. Or given a bunch of Dr. Phil's crappy books.

I suppose if I was forced into marriage I'd do it - but I want a Star Trek themed wedding.

It would take a phaser at my head to get me to the alter though.

Contributing to the topic, I think whoever mentioned the fairy tale aspect of it pretty much nailed it. Like Cinderella marrying the handsome prince in the King's Castle. Of course, as we've seen, not all women harbor this fantasy, nor desire a big fancy wedding.

I think for some women, it's a case of oneupmanship. Denise had 100 bouquets in her wedding, so I'll have a hundred. Petty yes, but it happens.

I (woman here!) saw my wedding as a chance to plan the perfect day to symbolize what my husband and I mean to each other, and to reflect what we want for our lives together. I wasn't one of those women who's fantasized about her wedding since she was a little girl. Instead, Icycle and I planned every aspect of our wedding day together. We chose a ceremony location in a rose garden for me, with redwood trees for him. We wrote our own vows, to express the personal promises we intend to keep, and to articulate our love and reasons for marrying. Purple was our theme color, because blue is his color, and red is mine (and a red-while-blue theme would have been ridiculous! 😀).

Our wedding was also an opportunity to plan a fantastic party for all of our friends and family. Our DJ was the man who taught us both how to dance (which was how we met, years ago), and we had a huge dance floor so we and our family and friends could waltz, swing, party the night away. I know the intimate, justice of the peace style of wedding is what's most right for some people, but I really can't convey the warmth and happiness surrounding you when all the people you love most in the world are there to celebrate with you.
