Why Do You Love Us English?

Hey guys i've noticed that Americans love us English our accents , culture , history and our sense of humour , What i wanna know is why ?
 
I love the English because you guys gave us The Beatles, The Who, Arthur Brown, The Damned, Throbbing Gristle, Ozric Tentacles, The Bevis Frond and any number of likeminded bands!
 
I don't hate the english.

Reason 1: Brits like beer. Americans like beer.

Reason 2: Because some of us (way back) were you guys once? Yeah, that ought to do it. But that was a few hundred years ago, so it is likely that a few folks would forget.

Reason 3: The British Isles are rather pleasant, though, and so are their people. That and the common language are pretty good indicators that we'll generally get along okay.

Reason 4: Who could really not enjoy saying 'God save the Queen'?

Reason 5: Benny Hill, Monty Python, the concept of Doctor Who, John Cleese... among others.

and they allow you all to be ten points higher on the IQ scale!
LOL... I don't know if that's true or not... 😉
 
the accent is the obvious one XP not to mention your sense of humor, giving us Monty Python and Mr. Bean compared to us having to resort to raunchy humor that always tries to push the envelope of what's acceptable to show on television. Plus most of the time English humor seems to be more witty and sophisticated most of the time, being funny while being classy about it at the same time...it's not something we're used to here and quite frankly, we could use more of.

and as I stated before, the interesting history dating back to the medieval era as well as the mythology stemmed from them...I love Arthurian literature, though it doesn't help my own screenname stemmed from Lancelot ^^

Not to mention England used to be the main superpower at one point before the introduction of the nuke, so that's also worthy of admiration.


though it kinda helps in the eyes of an American, you guys are foreign to us and that can bring curiosity to anyone who's fascinated by different cultures X3

Because we're like sister countries.... and accents are just adorable.
 
I have a certain fondness for the English accents and the slang. I have also found that most Englishmen are polite towards women.
 
i am of English/Scottish descent..what's not to love? 😉 o and a bit of German as well..

o and i love British humour..all those comedy shows on PBS..and we used to love Benny Hill..

I am truly and utterly astounded!

Starting a thread named "Why Do You Love Us English?", well, I thought it was simply inviting criticism for being so brash, but it does me well to see that so many people have answered the question very favourably and sensibly!

If I wasn't already, it'd make me proud to be a Brit. I doff my bowler hat to you all 😀
 
I love the Brits, Scotch, and Irish. As with others, they are whom I am mainly descended from. More than that, I just love the character(in general) of the people. I know I'm probably romanticizing somewhat based on movies, TV, and books and so on, but I dig that whole "stiff-upper-lip" sort of attitude the Brits especially have. Along with what others already mentioned, you also gave us Hammer studios, Kate Bush, The Goodies, Rudyard Kipling, Christopher Lee, Jethro Tull, and onandonandon...
 
Cheers to everyone of you it certainly answers my question , And Valerie it's true that most of us Englishmen are polite to women but believe me there's alot of us who arn't for example ....my father now i'm not gonna go into full detail about him but i will say he's a prick and i hate him anyway keep those replies coming 😉
 
I don't know but, I love the British accents and culture.I mean Queen Elizabeth is doing an awesome job running their country!They are very good with making a room look just gorgeous and they are very well mannered and intelligent

Aside from the huge variety of dialects in a small space, I think my favourite thing is the rather unquestioning underlying disposition toward proper manners and common sense which are equally able to be admired as made fun of (by both citizens of the United Kingdom and others).

Well she is the titular head of state. Doesn't the Queen (King) have to grant approval after a new Parliament is organized?

Isn't there in Canada a ceremonial rep from England who has a similar role.

I know that it is all ceremonial but still it's present, unless I am mistaken.

that i'm not so sure off but she doesn't have that much power now it's all the PM now he's the one who organized our troops to go to Iraq
 
I don't love you, anymore than anyone else. That said, it's because it's foreign and different. But that's probably already been said. Now get to your tea party! lol
